About this deal

I do enjoy a retelling of classic fairytale stories, but this one is a little too 'out there' for me, I have recently read better plotted retellings. However, I can fully understand how some YA's would relate to the strong female protagonist. The author has added lots of side characters, which had promise to add excitement to the tale, sadly they faded away, except for one, the witch in the woods who adds depth to the story. Rule of Three: Girls get to visit the royal ball three times. If they're still not chosen by their third ball, they're considered "forfeit" and get cast out. Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri... It's been 200 years since Cinderella found her Prince Charming and they lived happily ever after, or did they? Sophia, our lead character, knows this story by heart as she has had to read it every day of her 16 years. This is the law, laid down by King Munford; if you don't read the book your life can become forfeit.

Amina: the Fairy Godmother of the original story. She is portrayed as more of a witch, having a variety of powers including potion making and divination. Sophia and Constance go to her for help. She has either had people come to her for help or to accuse her of evil throughout the years. She uses potions to remain looking young, though she does age. Girls team up to overthrow the kingdom in this unique and powerful retelling of Cinderella from a stunning new voice that's perfect for fans of Dhonielle Clayton and Melissa Albert . After reading Cinderella Is Dead, you will never look at the original Grimms fairytale in the same way ever again...Overall, this book was awesome!, and this was a very awesome cinderella retelling, and it was within my standards, cause cinderella is my favorite fairy tale, so i kinda did have high expectations for this, and it pretty much hit them. Also the plot twists were awesome, like so much!, LASTLY GO READ THIS BOOK IS AWESOME, U'LL LOVE IT HOPEFULLY U WILL! PLS LOVE IT! Even though it's risky, Sophia pleads with Erin to run away with her. Erin refuses. In their society it is treacherous to be different; to want something different for their lives. Erin is scared to be caught, to put herself and her family at risk. Adaptational Villainy: Prince Charming in the original fairy tale was pretty much Exactly What It Says on the Tin: A gallant prince who genuinely loved Cinderella and helped her escape her step-family's abuse. While in this book, he is little more than a Psychopathic Manchild who viewed Cinderella as his property and killed her in the most cruel, drawn-out way possible when she wouldn't give in to him. He then proceeded to do the same to thousands of innocent women for over a century to stay alive and rule eternally over Mersailles. Cinderella: Cinderella has obviously been dead for over 200 years, but she is such an important part of the book. There is the story that everyone knows about her, and then the other story that only 3 people know and that the reader finds out little by little. I really liked reading about this other story and see things slot into place slowly. Even dead, Cinderella keeps on fighting. THEMES

Domestic Abuser: Sadly a common occurrence in Lille. Due to the system's inherent sexism, no one bats an eye at husbands who abuse their wives, as they're seen as little more than men's property. Right at the beginning of the book, Sophia walks in on a seamstress being beaten by her husband when he suspects she's been keeping her earnings from him. This book is set in a world not really unlike our own because a lot of the predetermined ways people live, think and act are exactly like our own. There is prejudice, there is bullying, the fact people don’t stand up when something bad or wrong happens. This was definitely a very scathing criticism of our own society and I thought that it was executed really well. It’s 200 years after Cinderella found her prince, but the fairy tale is over. Teen girls are now required to appear at the Annual Ball, where the men of the kingdom select wives based on a girl’s display of finery. If a suitable match is not found, the girls not chosen are never heard from again.
