Critical items are items that should have been correctly endorsed on the forced-choice recognition trial based on earlier performance and are included on the CVLT–II to assist in detecting suboptimal effort. The two critical items are (a) target words recalled at least once on immediate- or delayed-recall trials but missed on forced-choice recognition (CI-recall), and (b) target words that were hits on yes/no recognition but missed on forced-choice recognition (CI-recognition). In the normative sample, the occurrence of these types of errors was extremely rare, even in the oldest subjects. Jefferson, A. L., Poppas, A., Paul, R. H., & Cohen, R. A. (2007). Healthgrades reports details of a doctor’s malpractice history when the doctor has at least one closed medical malpractice claim within the last five years, even if he or she no longer practices in that state. If a doctor has a sanction, it does not necessarily mean that he or she is a poor-quality doctor. Some sanctions are not related to medical care, and involve a doctor’s finances or administrative activities. Before you make any choices about changing your doctor, we recommend that you evaluate the doctor’s sanction information and determine how severe or relevant you think the sanction cause and action were. Within the AD group, immediate recall (List A Trials 1–5 total recall) was significantly associated with FC-total correct ( r s=.43, p<.01), but not with total yes/no recognition discriminability ( p=.51). The number of words recalled on the long-delay free recall condition was related to both FC-total correct ( r s=.49, p<.01) and total yes/no recognition discriminability ( r s=.34, p=.04). Furthermore, within the AD group there was a significant correlation between dementia severity (DRS total score) and forced-choice performance ( r s=.41; p=.01), but no association between dementia severity and yes/no recognition performance ( p=.76).

The CWIT Inhibition/Switching task had the largest effect size and was the strongest predictor of subsequent DRS decline. Studies investigating executive function in individuals at risk for dementia (e.g., those with MCI) have also implicated executive function deficits in similar components such as response inhibition, divided attention, and inhibitory control ( Brandt et al., 2009; Traykov et al., 2007). Additionally, impairments in divided and sustained attention, as well as inhibition of irrelevant information on the Stroop test have been observed in mild AD ( Stokholm, Vogel, Gade, & Waldemar, 2006). The current study’s findings suggest that cognitive switching necessary for alternating between producing an automatic response (e.g., reading words) and inhibiting this automatic response to deliver a controlled response (e.g., naming colors) may be particularly sensitive to subsequent global cognitive decline in a sample of relatively healthy older adults.Baron, I. Among these are the Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System (D-KEFS) and the California Verbal Learning Test (CVLT), which were developed by Dr. Dean Delis, a board-certified neuropsychologist. Today, we talk with Dean about executive functions, the D-KEFS, the upcoming D-KEFS 2.0, and the CVLT-3.
