About this deal

In the movies, Miles exists in a universe where his Peter Parker died and he’s taken over the mantle of Spidey. Anyone who has glimpsed the trailers or publicity interviews will know that those people include the crazed Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) from Raimi's first Spider-Man film, the haughty Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) from his second, plus Electro (Jamie Foxx) from Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But more importantly, this is the first time we got to swing on webs that were actually anchored to buildings and feel the rush of an actual physics engine as Spidey zipped across an open-world Manhattan. A game that tormented many young players with some cruel difficulty spikes, it nonetheless does its best to provide an exciting Spider-Man adventure on humble technology. The Ultimate Spider-Man comics used to feature a similar arrangement, but Miles has since made the jump to the core Marvel Universe and now fights alongside the classic Peter Parker in his new home.

Yet while the cinematic story delivers some impressive spectacle, it’s the city that steals the show. After the incident, Peter surmises that he couldn't get his powers back even if he wanted to and quits being Spider-Man. There is Peter Parker, now rocking a black symbiote suit being pursued across Manhattan by the hired goons of big-game hunter Kraven, and my brain happily switches to acrobatic autopilot, pummelling henchmen and swooping between skyscrapers as if it were 2018 again.Spider-Man: The Movie was released in 2002 and did just enough right to make it a fun superhero action brawler.

This NES entry looks suspiciously like a few other licensed LJN titles of the era, as a rather small Spidey run, jumps, punches and kicks enemies. Eventually, Parker learns of the true nature of Turner's schemes, and his powers come flooding back after he sciences the hell out of the device, reversing the "causative energy flux" (whatever that means). Second, the game features a post-credits scene where Miles and his mother host a dinner for Albert and his daughter. Marvel’s ability to show Iron Man’s gradual transition from arrogant overreacher to chastened stick-in-the-mud over the course of a half dozen movies may just be one of the most impressive aspects of its pioneering cinematic universe. However, with the final huge energy blast, Peter finds his cosmic powers have left him, turning him back into the regular (but still spider-powered) hero we know and love.
