You don't get booming bass with these speakers, but they do provide enough bottom to keep from sounding tinny. Samsung, HP and Dell also announced curved monitors back in January and today we’re taking our first look at Dell’s entry, the U3415W. Unlike LG’s 34UC97, which only adjusts for tilt and requires a special bracket (available only upon request) for use with VESA stands, the Dell has a solid VESA stand included. This monitor uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel technology to deliver rich, accurate colors and solid gray-scale performance, with wide viewing angles.
In comparison: We replaced the U3415W in our test setup with two old Dell 2408WFP displays, which were both dimmed to 50% brightness (about 150 cd/m 2). The strong contrast ratio and gamut provide plenty of visual punch and the backlight issues are only apparent in very dark images or movies. We measured up to 90 dB(A) at a distance of 15 cm (~6 in) and the sound remained quite undistorted up to just under the maximum volume. I configure the U3415W to have Upstream USB Port 1 associated with the Mini-DisplayPort and Port 2 with the standard DisplayPort. To get the best usage of the UltraSharp U3415W, you have to connect it to a device with DisplayPort 1.
