If I decide to not use the KVM functionality of the monitors, will I be able to use DDM to switch the video source of both monitors? Thus, you can hide the cables and connectors and the rear side of the monitor appears tidy and clean, should it be visible. A curved monitor doesn’t obviously fit into this philosophy, and Dell has done nothing special to make the U3415W fit. Dell's UltraSharp monitors have always maintained a pleasing aesthetic, but the U3415W takes it to another level with a slick, (mostly) bezel-free design that makes the gigantic 34-inch panel look even larger than it already is. In addition, the display comes with many picture-in-picture functions and includes three years "Premium Panel Service" warranty (hardware replacement when only one pixel is always on) with "Advanced Exchange Service" (replacement unit shipped the next business day).

Unlike LG’s 34UC97, which only adjusts for tilt and requires a special bracket (available only upon request) for use with VESA stands, the Dell has a solid VESA stand included. This monitor uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel technology to deliver rich, accurate colors and solid gray-scale performance, with wide viewing angles.

In comparison: We replaced the U3415W in our test setup with two old Dell 2408WFP displays, which were both dimmed to 50% brightness (about 150 cd/m 2). The strong contrast ratio and gamut provide plenty of visual punch and the backlight issues are only apparent in very dark images or movies. We measured up to 90 dB(A) at a distance of 15 cm (~6 in) and the sound remained quite undistorted up to just under the maximum volume. You'll have no problems running the newest AAA games on the Raider, for several years to come, especially when you add in the 32GB of RAM this laptop comes with.

Gray-scale performance is also top-notch; the panel had no trouble reproducing every shade of gray on the DisplayMate 64-Step Gray-Scale test and displayed intricate highlight and shadow detail on my test images. If you're the kind of person who looks at the best ultrawide monitors in the world and says, "I still need something wider," there are some monitors out there for you. In the OSD menu or the Display-Manager software, the brightness can be lowered in 100 steps to a minimum of 19 cd/m 2(factory state: 75% equals about 310 cd/m 2). Every surface feel robust, even the bezels, which are slim and hidden inside the panel to further the illusion of thinness. We measured the color saturation compared to the sRGB reference space at maximum brightness and otherwise factory settings (contrast: 75%, Color Preset Standard).Apart from the fantastic panoramic experience in videos and games, the large screen, which allows several big windows, is a main advantage of widescreen displays like the U3415W.

Contrast is at the top of the list thanks to a ratio of 730:1 with brightness set to 75 percent of maximum (the default), which we measured at 328 lux. A monitor like this is particularly appealing to video-editing professionals, who can use the extra space for an extra-long timeline view.
