About this deal

Problems begin when the egg hatches and Drip, a vegetarian dinosaur finds himself surrounded by a family of fierce carnivores. The text is full of different types of punctuation too, to help children get used to the different types and their functions. I think Donaldson has thrown too many linguistic acrobatics at this one, making the storyline slightly vague midway. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

Although Tyrannosaurus Drip is another good work by Julia Donaldson I found that it didn't quite reach the same level as some of her other picture books. On Tuesday 20th January we plucked up the courage to go on a dinosaur hunt and find out what was going on.

We have been busy sequencing the story and completing story maps to help us remember the main events of the story. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use. Finely crack some hard boiled eggs, dip in food colouring and peel after a few hours to make mysteriously patterned eggs to put in your nest. Instantly appealing, with bright and lively illustrations, and Tony Mitton's fantastic poetry and rhyming words.Having recently enjoyed the World Book Day The Tyrannosaurus Drip Song, it felt rude not to pick up the children's book it is based on. Shades of The Ugly Duckling, this is a solid children's book but not up to the best Julia Donaldson has to offer. The little Duckbill was interesting, but I found him a bit too boring and too easily seen as some kind of hero. The reading ages online suggest the book is for a 6–8-year-old, if reading alone out loud, if not it is suitable for much younger readers too with the help of a parent.
