About this deal

The acrilic stand also had some scratches and scuffs on it out of the box, but these were relatively minor and I don't know if you can even see them in the picture.

Each of the nozzles on the ZERO: RED comes capped with a metal filter grate, preventing loose earwax from entering the shell. Though I do think it sounds a little off, as if the stage produced is just to add air to the mix, the treble ultimately sounds smooth and clean, though the airiness and openness is not the best I have heard. Even though every region coherence is commendable throughout the entire presentation, the sound presentation is very clean and creates a mids-centric presentation. The Truthear ZERO has a low-frequency gain and high-frequency response in line with HRTF characteristics, which makes ZERO own the objective index comparable to that of professional in-ear monitors. Tracks like: "Hotel California (Live on MTV 1994) – Eagles" and "Fluid - Yosi Horikawa" feel quite immersive and you can enjoy all the details of the drums and the slam. There's also a new budget-friendly planar IEM with 7Hz that I am testing as we speak, and I generally appreciate the guy's tuning while also recognizing that each of the previous two reviewed products were fine but not essential/must-have by any means. It would have made writing this review so much easier – “cocky IEM maven designs cheap IEMs, and they SUCK! Tangled cables are the bane of modern existence, and everyone owning a wired pair of earphones/IEM can attest to this.

Mids: The midrange on both IEMs are a bit recessed but the RED has better tuning and synergy and slightly more textured. Most are me-too products in the race to the bottom with the usual trade-offs in tuning against its peers. In a QA stream, Crinacle claimed that the crossover had been overhauled to improve THD performance across the audible range. The full name of these in-ear monitors (IEMs) is the Truthear x Crinacle ZERO, and this is one of the few times a reviewer collaboration has been more than just a tuning tweak of an existing product. Truthear and Crinacle seem to have agreed with that, as the Red has quite more tame treble, at least on squigs. It was secretly going around to trade shows to get feedback from people and underwent multiple revisions in the months since.

What I like about the RED’s treble is that it doesn’t overly dampen the response to tame it, unlike past MoonDrop IEMs. Fit is honestly not bad for me, fits quite well, but do note that the shell and nozzle are quite large.

I personally prefer something less tightly braided so it’s smoother to touch but that’s my own obsessively small nitpick. If you’re someone who usually switches between a variety of devices with different OS, then these are suited for you. Got these in a couple of days ago, and I've put in a few hours listening to these both from my Modi/Magni and using a set of AZ09 Pros with the silicone/plastic trimmed back around the connectors.
