About this deal

And I clearly remember the very first thought that came to mind: I needed go back to Australia, collect my cat, and come back because we could seriously LIVE here! We only wish we could have seen the look on the nurses’ faces when they helped unpack their new tenant’s possessions! Each and every story – and there are so many of Tony’s tales squished within those pages – seems more outlandish and sometimes more scandalous than the next, but sure enough, they all took place in real time, in real life. You see, when Tony first rented the Pikes to the Ibiza Rocks Group in 2011, one of the stipulations of the deal was that he would always have a permanent room on the premises, in addition to his meals and drinks at the bar.

but when you’ve read it, there is a fair chance that by the end of it, you’ll be shocked and surprised that Tony made it past the age of 50, let alone all the way to 85. We raced up to reception to get out of the rain and at once I was greeted by that famous wall of goosebump-inducing photos and a friendly smiling face who said they’d kept the reception open while waiting for their Australian guests to arrive. A very different and interesting autobiography about someone whose lifestyle and vivacity should have made for a much shorter book, but somehow he continued to live through it all. THE SUN: HE was the sex-mad playboy who provided a tropical retreat for A-list celebrities to indulge their wildest fantasies.Giant glossy cherries complement the pineapple lamps on the nightstand, while Tony’s love of the ladies is acknowledged through two lightboxes showcasing photography by artist Diana Gomez – including one of the indelible Courtney Love which begs the question, did she and Tony have a connection? After shooting Wham’s Club Tropicana video by Pikes’s pool George became one of many globally-recognisable regular faces. Much-married, hedonistic hotel owner who partied hard with many a pop star and was known as the Hugh Hefner of Ibiza; John Donne may have written that no man is an island, but Tony Pike came close.

But for all his faults, there was still something human and likeable about him, and there’s no disputing his ambition, drive and work ethic. Dubbed the Hugh Hefner of Ibiza, Tony Pikes created a celebrity paradise, which was visited by the likes of Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Kylie Minogue, Julio Iglesias, and more. Being fellow countrywomen (and in bikinis) meant we’d gotten Tony’s attention and we proceeded to chat about life in Australia, what brought us to Ibiza, what had brought him to Ibiza and so on and so forth. From the hard-partying heartbeat of Pikes, Freddies to the glitter ball-laden Sunset Terrace to our newest party pocket, the Bathtub Club – there’s something for everyone at Pikes and we can’t wait to welcome you all back to our house. Retro designer Scandinavian cane and leather sofas scattered with rich red and brown velvet cushions are reminiscent of a 1970s Playboy Mansion scene, while a huge animal hide rug at the foot of the enormous wooden bed means prevents cold feet when you get up in the middle of the night to pee (if you were an 86-year-old man, this would be important!THE TIMES: Much-married, hedonistic hotel owner who partied hard with many a pop star and was known as the Hugh Hefner of Ibiza; John Donne may have written that no man is an island, but Tony Pike came close. If you were to pick up the book with no prior knowledge of Tony or Pikes, it’s quite possible you’d think it was a work of fiction. It was pitch black, it felt like the taxi had been driving for about 40 minutes (the big highway wasn’t there back then and there was no such thing as GPS so perhaps he’d gotten lost – my Aussie twang pronouncing ‘Pikes’ is a far cry from the Spanish ‘Pee-kays’), there were no signs anywhere and the campo seemed like a horror movie waiting to happen. We catch up with plant-based chef and author to get the inside scoop on her event, The Magical World of Mushrooms, in Pamelas.

Mr Pikes: The Story Behind The Ibiza Legend

Tony’s hand-built naughty boutique hotel helped thousands of the guests fulfil their wildest fantasies – an abundance of pleasure…an often drug-fuelled orgy of life. One of the questions we’ve often been asked over the past year was whatever happened to Tony’s room at Pikes? I will be forever grateful to you for creating the place that ultimately changed the course of my life and your legend will never be forgotten. Fascinating story about legendary hotel host Tony Pike - although when you read this book you'll discover there was a lot more to his life than Pikes. The books enjoyable and not a taxing read - you get the sense that some things are glossed over with not enough detail for me and I think I was hoping for a more robust dissection of Tony Pikes character and what made him tick rather than a book of anecdotes but none the less, it was an entertaining read and I would recommend for anyone with an interest in celebrity culture and hedonism. From a successful business life in Australia, and interesting upbringing, his story then turns to Ibiza and the reason he became the man he is remembered for today. There were times however, when we were fully booked out, and Dawn would allow a small handful of people to stay there.
