About this deal

It’s a large cast of characters but at no time did I have any difficulty keeping them and their storylines apart. You have a backpacker’s hostel in Venice Beach, the lives of many strangers colliding and a whole heap of secrets. For help with these queries or to submit general questions, comments or feature requests, try Goodreads Help or use the Contact Us form. On the paradisial shores of sunny California, eight strangers find themselves corralled in a run-down backpackers' hostel with secrets they’re more than willing to kill for. I found it a little disconcerting that some of the timeframe changes occurred mid chapter which I wasn’t used to experiencing.

If you're up for a challenge and seek something refreshingly different in your reading, this book offers a compelling exploration of complex characters and innovative storytelling. Secondly, the principal fault in my opinion was that in every chapter on every character you would get another chunk of the present day story and then that would halt so a bit more of their back story could be told over the last year or so. I’ve always been a backpacker at heart, so was interested in this storyline, but rather than a fun nostalgia trip to remind me of my travelling days, this was a chilling reminder that you don’t know who you can trust. For a relatively short book, this had a hell of a lot of characters, and I think it tried to fit too many plot lines in.Another amazing John Marrs book with a large cast of characters I wasn’t as gripped by this one as quickly as his other books. I admit I struggled quite a bit with this book, mainly because I found the formula being followed irritating. The unlikely character of Peyk, a sort of handyman, turns out to be the only one who sees people and events as they really are and it transpires he’s a bit of a weed assisted philosopher! Welcome to Wherever You Are is a twisty suspense thriller set in a run down LA backpackers’ hostel, about a group of strangers all running away from their pasts. So (in some ways) there is a deeper theme on offer (in addition to the whole twist of fate thing), akin to the Wizard of Oz’s ‘You’ve had the power all along.Firstly I need to point out that this is nothing like The Wronged Sons and I don't think it should be compared to it either.
