About this deal

I read mainly Mysteries and Thrillers, with over half of my reads being Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) directly from the publisher/author.

Claire wants her mom all to herself for the trip, but that can't happen because Emma is a teacher who must monitor the group of kids, give directions to the parent volunteers, and help the rest of the staff know what to do on a trip like this.

What sets The School Trip apart from other thrillers is the author’s focus on the theme of motherhood. Zoey’s eyes bring back terrifying memories, and Della is convinced that this new student, just like her brother, is a clever sociopath.

Working with friends and police and digging further into the death of her husband 2 years ago, Emma is able to connect some dots as who who might be behind the kidnapping. Set against this raw emotion is the police procedural element of routines as the investigation develops.

She's a recent widow and worries about her 6 year old daughter Claire and how her father's death will affect her. Emma’s grief and anguish is strong and was really upsetting to follow at times but really raw and real. Most of the childrens' parents have come along to act as chaperone but those who couldn't remained in groups of two or three with their teachers. Claire would never willingly go away with a stranger and Emma is thus convinced that the person who abducted her daughter was somebody they both knew. As a teaching assistant, I also understand the stress of keeping track of classes of children when out and about!

I literally lost sleep to finish it… gripping… twists that were nail-bitingly good… had me on the edge of my seat.Miranda Smith is always at the top of her game and with The School Trip, she has penned a first-rate thriller that will have readers chewing their nails to the elbow. Deliciously addictive… I read the book in one sitting because I simply could NOT look away… perfect… I seriously loved this one! Gripping, addictive, unpredictable and completely chilling… I devoured page after page in just one sitting… A truly fantastic read which kept me awake far too late.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I’m not a fan of repetitive sentences, but I can see how the author used them to show a scene’s chaos, while maintaining a hectic pace, as the story approached the climax. And then a detective shows me a my daughter, skipping away from the farm, holding hands with an adult in a bulky coat, their cap pulled down low. Miranda Smith’s latest psychological thriller The School Trip is literally something ripped from the headlines! The main character Emma is very likable and you feel all the emotions she’s experiencing with the loss of her husband and missing child.
