Evaluation/Recommendation: I enjoyed this book because I got connected to Danny, the main character, who goes through struggles to get away from the monster and stand up for him self. Sure, he loves Sasha, but even after being medicated, he’s a dick to waiters because he wants to have sex.

The story begins in London as Danny and his mother, Cathy Mangam, are fleeing from Chris Kane, Cathy's cruel boyfriend. Like several of Gibbons' other books, The Edge is officially billed as a children's book, but deals with themes that are equally relevant and interesting to adults. He was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2001 and 2003 and shortlisted twice for the Booktrust Teenage Prize. She enjoys cycling around Welsh countryside some of which has become the settings in her first series.

In the past, Chris has already had several brushes with the law, and ends up imprisoned in the novel. Sometime later, brought together by their new comradeship, Charles and Bob come across an empty cabin along a river. At the outset of the novel, Danny is portrayed as anxious and uncertain as a result of abused by Chris Kane and he felt uncomfortable when he first arrived the promise land.Written really well, at first I wasn't sure about this one, but it's gripping and intriguing and it was great to read from so many of the different characters to understand their mind sets. After Danny and his mother escape her abusive boyfriend, he also confronts a number of problems caused by his mixed ancestry. However, Danny is unwilling to give up his hopes for a new way of life and his struggle to make the Edge his home starts to bear fruit. Charles and Bob adapt to their harsh surroundings; while watching a squirrel fall for a trap they have constructed, they hear a rescue helicopter fly above. I recently found a copy of it on a 'take a book, leave a book' shelf and couldn't resist reading it again.
