About this deal

Some DX / APS-C lenses are known to work quite well on full-frame cameras, with some vignetting that can be removed in the corners (the Nikon 35mm f/1. In terms of aesthetics, the Sigma 18-35mm looks fantastic; its matte black paintwork teamed with silver and white detailing resembles that of a ‘Stealth fighter’ jet and it just oozes high build quality. The new Wacom One 12 pen display, now in its second generation, offers photographers an affordable option to the mouse or trackpad, making processing images easy and efficient by editing directly on the screen.

However, we´ve now developed our own proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system (A1) using 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensors. With such a wide aperture you might expect to see some chromatic aberration but it’s difficult to find.

If you don’t mind losing the longer focal lengths of the typical standard zoom lens, then the new Sigma 18-35mm F1.

Some lenses (usually through decentering or spherical aberration) make it impossible for the camera to achieve optimal focus. By contrast, the D7100 sample gets (much) sharper at every FL when stopped down to f/4, and the center is much sharper than the edges, again at f/4. Particually, I have some finding that this inaccurated focusing might be seen when the shooting distance longer than 1M. The zoom ring is smooth and has some nice resistance to it, while the focus ring is also very smooth, albeit with a little less resistance. No one else has done what Sigma has done here: they made a zoom as good as 3 fast primes for a pittance. In addition, the technological innovation at our Aizu factory also contributes to better lens production.

The idea of using a crop sensor lens on a full-frame camera like the R5 may sound strange, but the R5 and Sigma 18-35mm f/1. The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro might not come with the most impressive camera hardware we have seen, but Google's software power and tuning excellence help its new flagship smartphones produce among the very best image quality we have seen on mobile devices. And such a lens is likely to be somewhat less intimidating to subjects than either the relatively large Sigma or a 'serious-looking' 24-70mm on a full-frame body. Since the lens is bright, with good aperture value, the lack of image stabilization might not be that big of a deal, although a image stabilizer is always an advantage to have. By this we mean that it will be able to project an image that's just over twice as bright onto a sensor that's slightly less than half the area, meaning the same total amount of light is used to capture the image. Fujifilm's newest camera aims to bring modern AF, improved sensor stabilization and video recording technology into the medium format realm. Despite Sigma giving us a list of ways in which this sample's build may not match up to final production standards, it still feels very nicely put together, with both the focus and zoom rings giving a smooth, positive feel.

Add to this the impressive-feeling build quality that Sigma has applied to its well-regarded 35mm, 50mm and 85mm F1. Second, the lens has a very complex optical formula that consists of a total of 17 lens elements in 12 groups, with 4 aspherical and 5 low-dispersion elements. There's visible barrel distortion at wideangle, turning to pincushion distortion at the long end, but no more than you'd get from any other premium standard zoom. This is effectively doing for video the same thing as the aforementioned Aspect Ratio by applying a 1.

wanted to love the lens but got very frustrated about its inability to consistently get the focus right. GrahamHO - It's all a question of whether you think in terms of per-unit-area light (and then enlargement), or you think about per-whole-image light (and hence don't have to think about the ratio between the capture medium and the output size). As a result, the Sharpness score is good for an ultra-wide 18mm on a full-frame camera but it’s not so great as the equivalent to a 29mm on the Canon EOS 700D. Third, it has a metal mount and a thermally stable composite barrel, which offers greater elasticity than polycarbonate and offers minimal thermal shrinkage with exceptional hardness, something Sigma has only recently started providing on its new generation lenses. Other technical information, including manufacturer-provided MTF chart can be found in the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.
