About this deal

Obviously the Siglent is better but it's also about 50% more expensive and above the Siglent there's something even better.

The only thing you'll have to adapt to with a X-E is the multiplexed vertical controls and if you're anything like me dreaded the thought of using them but I very quickly adapted and far more easily than I had imagined.

The free pocket multimeter included did not influence the purchase decision but nevertheless was gratefully received. Nope, the OP is already using a very capable Siglent at work and likely very familiar with it, it would be a mistake he would very likely regret selecting the lowest value 4ch DSO for his home use when the X-E that he has pondered about has a very very similar UI and even has some features its bigger brother has not. Purchased this oscilloscope for home electronic repairs – have used scopes professionally, costing many times more, yet the features and performance of this Rigol still impress!

I did the hack and added just the 100Mhz option and it worked and now shows 100m as an official option.

OTOH we can see that Rigols' mystery interpolation reduces the Gibbs Phenomenon when you're on the limit, ie. The correct thing to do would be turn off other channels and get 500MHz or 1GHz sample rate on the channel you're interested in. The scope is solid and well built, has a superb range of features and boasts an excellent, large and clear LCD. It’s cheap, it’s good enough for most projects, and there have been a number hacks and mods for this very popular scope to give it twice as much bandwidth and other interesting tools. Features include; high memory depth, wide dynamic range, clear display, excellent waveform capture rate, comprehensive triggering functions, auto measurements with statistics and various remote communications interfaces.

The “-S” models include a 2 channel integrated waveform generator and the PLUS models are upgradable to Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes with the purchase of the RPL1116 digital lead kit. But, it grew unexpectedly — as [Alfred] says, “the more the project turned out to be fun, the more it got out of hand”. Your employer or university would have had them, but you’d have been more likely to own an all-analogue bench that would have been familiar to your parents’ generation. This is coded in Pascal (FPC Lazarus), but we weren’t able to browse the program because [Alfred] hasn’t posted the source code yet.Selecting it again when already active does nothing instead of making the measurement of Rise Time disappear as one would naturally expect. My only suggestion for improvement so far is that the user interface to clear the measurements selected by the buttons on the left of the display is too complicated. This work will plot whatever is being captured by the scope in a window, in Linux, but sometimes you just need a screencap of whatever is on the scope; that’s why there were weird Polaroid adapters for HP scopes in the day.
