About this deal

Carbide bits are tougher than standard HSS bits so on the whole will last much longer and keep their sharpness for considerably longer, however they are brittle and can easily damage if dropped you need to take care of them! Ripping perfectly straight miters on long boards with a table saw free from ugly saw marks or burns can be tricky, but using a chamfer bit in a router table can make exceptionally clean cuts. Position the fence over the blade and slowly raise the blade until it is slightly lower than the finished cut to create a recess in the fence. The Whiteside multi rabbeting router bit set provides 8 different bearings and therefore 8 different cutting depths, including flush trim.

There were 10 balconies, all subtly different, so I made one mother template, used that to produce 10 different individually fitted templates then routed 7 copies of each of them. There are several different parts that make up a router bit and understanding each of these and what they do is integral to they’re use.Not only are rounding-over bits the most commonly used type of edging bit, but they’re also perhaps only second to straight bits in how often they’re employed. Plunge cuts are particularly handy for cutting out things like mortise joints, hinge and striker plate recesses and also latch and bolt recesses for door locks. As opposed to the rounding-over, the quarter-circle of the cove is an indentation in, instead of an easing of, the 45-degree edge. What I actually did as a test was to make multiple passes across the table saw blade at a height I thought was right for the extra 6mm or so. As the name implies, V-groove bits groove out a V-shaped profile in a piece of material, often to produce a decorative effect.

Unlike performing any of these tasks using other tools such as planes or saws, a router with the correct bit will give a 100% accurate and clean cut when used correctly. All Whiteside’s cutting tips are hand brazed, precision ground and made from American industrial grade micro grain tungsten carbide. Once you have practiced and developed the skills to use both properly you will be amazed at just how effective and versatile these tools can be. Also telling me - " Yes, for a table you will require a 1/2 router that is more suitable" - even though their own site points to a Makita RT0700CX2 as an example - which is 1/4". Traditionally, a sacrificial strip of wood is secured to the fence and the fence is then moved against the dado set, covering part of the blade as needed. Instead of a shear cut, slot-cutters have carbide 90° to the bit’s face, and the carbide extends above and below the body.

The notched cuts create plenty of surface area for gluing and form a tight-fitting joint that holds the pieces together while they’re being clamped. Here, the tongue’s thickness is critical, meaning what remains is far more important than what’s removed. A handheld router must be used for all interior cuts and cuts on assembled projects, such as bookshelves or cabinet boxes.

Glue joint bits assist joining two pieces of material by creating identical, adjoining tongues on the edge of both pieces. As the shanks and in turn the bits themselves are thicker they are much more stable and produce a much cleaner cut.I see so many router tables and they make routing / trimming look so much easier and more accurate than I could ever be with my hand. To ensure the cutting bit stays flush with surface you are trimming back to, the bits are usually guided. Also taking a big cut with a 1/4in shank bit needs to be done with care to avoid bending the shank of the bit (see above). To do the T Track in the top of the fence it would be nice to have a router table - I can detach the fence (only screws, no glue) and then just run it over a 19mm bit - job done. Some have a shear cut which, although beneficial when cutting from below, impedes the cut if used above since it directs chips to the base of the cut, which is exactly where you don’t want them to be.
