About this deal

Our favourite songs included quite a few of those present on Greatest Hits, but there are notable missing ones: ’39 and The Prophet’s Song from A Night at the Opera, Stone Cold Crazy from Sheer Heart Attack, Jealousy from Jazz to name but a few. My social media feeds are full of remembrances, and it just so happens I would have listened to Queen regardless of them being the pick for this club. The video for "Killer Queen" had been shot especially for Greatest Flix, as no video had been made for the song on its original release in 1974. The album consisted of Queen's biggest hits since their first chart appearance in 1974 with " Seven Seas of Rhye", up to their 1980 hit " Flash" (though in some countries " Under Pressure", the band's 1981 chart-topper with David Bowie, was included). One of the longest charting albums in the US, as of November 2023 it has spent 566 weeks on the Billboard 200.

Those with more than a passing interest in Queen knows that this collection is not in any way a fair representation of their whole career, for while they were natural successors to The Beatles in being masters of the fabled 'three minute pop song' they were also musical pioneers, who successfully melded heavy metal and glam rock long before Motley Crue and their ilk, as well as linking heavy metal and prog-rock with exhilarating results when Rush were only starting out and had yet to outgrow their 'Zeppelin on steroids' roots. Greatest Hits is the band's best-selling album to date, with total sales of over 25 million copies, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. and I'll just yell into the abyss that I'd like to see a re-release of the Canadian version with shorter track list and Keep Yourself Alive: a more perfect Greatest Hits, IMLTHO. The US ended up with its original edit of Queen's first single release, " Keep Yourself Alive", originally released in 1973 and re-released in the US in 1975, following the success of " Bohemian Rhapsody". The US release was delayed by Hollywood Records until September 2002 and featured the 2001 Japanese release remastered versions of Greatest Hits Volumes 1 and 2 on the US and Canadian versions of The Platinum Collection.

It is available on LP, cassette, 8-track, Reel-to-Reel, and of course, it was later re-issued on CD ( 1984 onwards) and MiniDisc (1998), some in typical remastered fashion (eg. Melody Maker 's Adam Sweeting stated, "I've never been the slightest bit interested in Queen's ridiculous pomposity and Freddie just makes me snigger, but I suppose songs like 'Killer Queen' are sort of catchy, while anything as preposterous as 'We Will Rock You' deserves an award if only for bad taste". This part finishes in the best possible way with two of the best tunes ever, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. Four songs from their last studio album Made in Heaven (1995) also feature in the compilation, including " Too Much Love Will Kill You" and " Heaven for Everyone". Commonly referred to as the Red Greatest Hits, it features most of the '70s tracks absent from Classic Queen (including " Another One Bites the Dust", "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions" and " Killer Queen").

It has spent over 700 weeks in the UK Charts, and is the best-selling album of all time in the UK, selling over 6 million copies there. We bring you breaking news, exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes features, as well as unrivalled access to the biggest names in rock music; from Led Zeppelin to Deep Purple, Guns N’ Roses to the Rolling Stones, AC/DC to the Sex Pistols, and everything in between. In the US, Greatest Hitshas spent a total of 413 weeks on the album chart, and only last week reached a new peak of number eight, having previously clambered to the lofty heights of the number 11 position 29 years ago. Although Greatest Flix only listed 17 videos on its sleeve, it contained two videos for "We Will Rock You". There was no universal track listing or cover art for the album, and each territory's tracks were dependent on what singles had been released there and which were successful.
