About this deal

I've only ever had my cards graded with the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) and Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), but I do have some opinions from personal experience.

One theory for the hostility is that the rise of a UK grader will lower the value of cards graded by PSA, Beckett and CGC by alleviating current scarcity, or flooding the market with highly-graded cards. I’m sending my cards to Tree Frog Grading, and I think fellow collectors would be happy with the results should they do the same 🙂 How Long Does Pokemon Card Grading Take? Graham has his own list of grievances: that certain companies are lying about employing experienced graders, that influencers with “their fingers” in US grading firm PSA have encouraged abuse against him, and that those who mocked his venture went on to set up their own rival grading companies.By ‘locking in’ or preserving a card’s condition you’re giving it the potential to be a sought after piece that many collectors will want to get their hands on.

Now I want to take this opportunity to say a massive shout-out to their entrepreneurs who took a risk, started their own grading companies and have a strong desire to serve the Pokemon community.Whether your Pokemon cards are graded, raw, or in binders, it’s a shame if you can’t regularly appreciate them for their brilliant artwork. Another criticises PokéGrade’s scoring system: “don’t just pluck numbers from thin air because I can get my 84 year old nan to do that at bingo when it re-opens! So much abuse,” says Kane Crosfill, who runs GetGraded, the first of the new UK grading companies to come to market.

The WIRED conversation illuminates how technology is changing every aspect of our lives—from culture to business, science to design. This secrecy, at the very least, can prove confusing to collectors who receive lower grades than they expected. The accusations are many: that they don’t know the first thing about grading a card; that they’re scammers; that their slabs are ugly and misshapen. Certainly for older and rarer Pokemon cards, Pokemon card values have increased exponentially in recent times.

At the more extreme end, over the years there have been accusations of the companies missing trimmed or altered cards, or, more seriously, about the major companies deliberately undergrading popular cards. Check out a video I recorded and published to YouTube with a lot more camera angles to help you get an idea of what the slabs look like.
