This wasn't thrilling or twisty; I saw all of the twists coming, not to mention I had a difficult time liking and/or relating to any of the women. Secrets and lies in a secluded atmosphere combined with lots of alcohol is never a healthy recipe for anyone, especially these women who will soon find out that not one of them will be left unscathed by the time sirens signal the arrival off several police cars! There’s a lesbian love triangle (well, the novel is set in Greece after all) between a few characters, whose names I’ve already forgotten.

I even thought skipping her parts but it would cause problem for me to understand entire premise fully so I patiently read her POV! I just prefer books that are more mysterious throughout, including the end, such as You Are Not Alone and Final Girls.Reading the book is almost as good as being on the island yourself with all the characters as its so well written. Each of Lexi's friends Bella, Ana, Robyn, Fen and Robyn all have their own secrets and reasons for wanting to attend the Hen party. As it stands, I had no business reading this one as a man as I felt a little like a voyeur looking into the private world of women and what they do when they’re alone. With an exquisite setting that crackles with tension, One of the Girls is a page-turning voyage to a remote Greek Island where friends old and new have gathered for a hen weekend.

Ever since she was eight, her family owned a Dorset beach hut and between March and October, they were lucky enough to be allowed to spend some nights there. So, always to start, the six or so women characters get jumbled, but in this book, I quickly fell into a groove and that’s a real talent when an author can do that.

Someone is determined to make sure that Lexi’s marriage never happens – and that one of the women doesn’t leave the island alive. In any event, against all these characters and the lush Mediterranean backdrop, a murder happens before the weekend’s done. Six narrators – including bride-to-be Lexi, her lifetime BFF Bella, her new BFF Anna, her other childhood BFF Robyn, Bella’s partner Fen and soon to be sister-in-law Eleanor all tell the goings on of this Greek getaway. With that being said, I had my suspicions that the "killer" was one of two people, and one of them ended up being the killer, so I was happy with my deduction.

If we'd been more astute, if we'd listened more closely, if we'd not turned away from her - from ourselves - we could have stopped it. From the start, The Hike is extremely engaging, and I had trouble pulling myself away to do normal every day things. Lucy's seventh novel, ONE OF THE GIRLS, is 'an electric, sun-soaked thriller', released in May 2022. The short chapters kept the tension high and the pace fast, I felt like I was flying through the book.By this time, she already knew that she wanted to become a fiction author but needed money to support herself.

Exquisitely drawn with all the twists and turns you’d expect from Lucy Clarke … this was a delicious escape from the world … not to mention as close as I’ll get to a Greek Island for a while. Shades of Big Little Lies, there were troubling undercurrents of each character and all were lying about something.There are six women on the trip and as the days go past they discover how connected they really are.
