The wheel’s diameter is 11 inches, which makes it suitable for all species of hamsters regardless of their size. the 12” size is quite large + wide and great for a Syrian hamster or a pair of dwarf hamsters (a large wheel where they can both run is recommended if you have dwarf or robo pairs, or if you have and unexpected litter of hamsters- large wheels like this one are easier for them to share as young pups). I have these cages set up in case of earthquake or wildfire, as both are looming realities on the west coast of the US these days! Wooden wheels are a good option for hamsters that do not chew or urinate on the wheel, whereas plastic and acrylic wheels are easier to clean and more difficult for hamsters to chew on. The only downside to the design is that it is not the best option for hamsters who urinate on their wheel because you will have difficulty cleaning the wheel.

I find they work best when placed inside a sand bath since they do not have a heavy, sturdy base (the sand helps keep them in place).

Hamsters run very fast and any hole or large tread can cause an injury your hamster might not be able to survive. It also comes with a optional cork bottom to avoid moving and you can choose which height you want to put it at. bottom height, you can adjust the height of the hamster wheel's running drum to fit the species of pets you cared for or the height of the bedding materials you used.My hamsters seem to enjoy a saucer in their sand area, since the sand helps it hold still and they can also use the saucer as a hide. It is made with dual ball bearings which makes it extremely quiet when your hamster runs on it, which is desirable if the sound of your hamster’s wheel keeps you up at night. I have not personally tried a Caroline Storm Wheel, but they seem like a great option for dwarf hamsters, Chinese hamsters and possibly some smaller or young Syrian hamsters (although I would generally advise going with 12” for a Syrian hamster).These wheels are a great way to prevent your hamster from being flung off the wheel when they are going too fast. To solve this light-weight base issue I simply place this wheel in a large sand bath and it keeps the wheel from moving around while my hamster uses it. This allows them to choose which one they want to use and allows me to wash one while the other can still be available to them. I currently use the size M/10” for my larger robo, Steven (40g), and the size S/8” for my smaller robo, Sofia (25g). If your hamster stops running suddenly or trips the distance to the top of the wheel is longer on a bigger wheel- this means they are less likely to have dramatic falls on a big wheel.
