The back of the box shows a game in progress and gives a good concise description of the game (Figure 2).The average playtime of the game is about 15 minutes per player even with new players due to the extremely easy to understand rules. Players are slowly building out their park, squeezing in enclosures, gaining a range of animal meeples and plugging gaps with attractions. You want to reduce the number of turns needed to fill your board, since one single turn can make or break your chances of gaining mini menagerie master status! If adding an animal to an Enclosure causes the Enclosure to become full, the player can then empty the Enclosure of animals (storing up to 1 of the removed animals in their houses if they have room) and then choose one of the available Attraction tiles to add to their player board. Moving one meeple back to their housing, if they wish, the player discards the meeples from the enclosure. To begin setting up for New York Zoo, the game board is laid in the middle of the table and the various Enclosure tiles are arranged into separate piles based on their color.If there’s a piece coming up that you want, then you can move the Elephant in such a way to guarantee that your opponent won’t be able to get to it but that regardless of what they choose to do on their turn, they’ll put you within striking distance of the tile on your next one. Attractions are great because they are either large tiles that take up a decent amount of space on your board, or they’re small 1x1 or 1x2 tiles that you need for those awkward gaps you’ve accidentally left behind. Also you may want to pass breeding spots knowing you can breed and your opponent can’t, this is especially important at 2 and 3 player.
