About this deal

Edward Rutherfurd

A story that follows the River Thames as it flows through the heart of London, from the days of the Romans, through 16 centuries to the Victorian engineers who gave the city so many of its famous bridges, to the Dockland development of today. Using real life stories and actual historical figures it conveys a sense of realism as it hones in on certain characters pinpointing who they are and where they fit in to the overall proceedings going on. In 2015 Edward Rutherfurd was the recipient of the City of Zaragoza's International Historical Novel Honor Award "for his body of work in the field of the historical novel.Coins or artefacts stolen or lost in one chronicle raise the reader's expectations that they might be recovered in another, at a later date. Whilst the style and the tone are dramatic in nature, it’s not inaccessible either, as it allows the reader to jump in easily, getting lost in the narrative.

Originally published on the sixth of April in 2000, this was another standalone novel from the British author, once again spanning a vast number of years. As each story unfolds, we gradually discover who, in this generation, are the heroes; who the villains. Spanning a duration of 1,800 years, this captures a large chunk of Russian history taking the reader on a journey, as they meet five families along the way.Setting many of his stories within his local area, such as Sarem which featured Stonehenge, he used the extensive history of his environment whilst growing up to create his in-depth novels. Generation after generation, these families embody the passion, struggle, wealth, and verve of the greatest city in the Old World. En este caso (y que los ingleses no londinenses me perdonen), la historia de Londres se superpone a la Historia de la isla, y es una buena escusa para darle un buen repaso. A sprawling historical novel as big as London itself - it was required reading before I went to study abroad and I've read it twice since.

As a history of London (and England) it's nice in that it's not too dry and involves a little bit of fictional aspects.

With his now trademarked epic scope as before, it manages to recapture an accuracy and sense of character which shows a master clearly at the top of his game. There was no question of murder, since, by definition, both parties were consenting to the business. In ‘The Forest’ that is less important as we follow families through the generations with real world events are largely in the background. Set in the New Forest which is located in the south of England this goes all the way back to 1099 as it charts the progress of the region and all those who dwelt there.
