About this deal

Although not a Liverpool fan, I was interested in discovering Klopp's background prior to his appointment as Liverpool manager in October 2015. One of my memories of this is the blonde haired fellow with Mainz, the celebrations of their promotion and surivival in the Bundesliga.

Though a slim book, it is no small achievement for Quinn and Faber to have turned this around so quickly. But former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, speaking before the final, said it would be hard not to see failing to win the Champions League as taking the shine off an otherwise impressive campaign for the Reds. An enjoyable read for any liverpool fan, or any football fan intrested in learning more about the charismatic liverpool manager. to have the disappointment of losing out on the league and then this one as well, they [Liverpool] can still be very proud of what they have achieved this season. One which is on top of my head is his constant emphasis on staying humble no matter where you are in life and also how fast back up he bounces from a setback in the tournament, especially during his time in Dortmund.

That said, he did win the Bundesliga twice, which was an undeniably great achievement, but that doesn't excuse him of any criticism whatsoever. After finished reading this book, sometimes it kept me wonder whether Klopp fully applies the theories being stated in the book; when you can sense in games he did not apply them thoroughly. That’s how much Klopp is loved by the entire city of Mainz, the entire city of Dortmund, and by Liverpool fans worldwide, and it is a testament to his great character. my biggest gripe with the book is that the final 1/3 is no more than a summary of liverpool seasons under klopp, considering the target audiance for this book is liverpoll/football fans the ending seemed unneccessary. The rather flat narrative of his team's results means that his poorer performances are never questioned - he stuggled to get Mainz promoted, faltering at the end of the season, and Mainz's relegation is excused as he had to sell some players. That said, although both the study of the man and of his tactics seem half-baked, there are a few interesting conclusions that can be drawn from Klopp's story - ones which are useful to consider in the context of the current direction that Liverpool FC are heading.

Former England captain Alan Shearer said the players should be able to reflect positively on what they had done this season, despite the disappointment of missing out on league and European honours. It is so fresh that one imagines Quinn still annotating the manuscript as it was being sent to the printers. If you are in four competitions at this stage and only finish with two - and not the league or Champions League - you will be disappointed. However, it's also clear that he regards the lifespan of his project at 7 years (the exact amount of time he spent at both his former clubs). But its narrative, which zips along with the pace and confidence of Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, is both informative and generous with anecdotes. Jurgen Klopp's biography leapfrogged my reading list based on recommendations and curiousity about the manager that turned around Liverpool's fortune. In the four years since he joined Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has come to be adored the red half of Merseyside as the man who put the club back on the road to success again. Then I saw Jurgen Klopp celebrating with fist pumps in front of the Kop, and suddenly I thought that there is a story to be told here.
