I went over the Crazy Horse lessons with my daughter once, and since then she asks me every night to do Crazy Horse. In the meantime, we will be learning the techniques at home working hard towards earning our blue belts. Carlos Gracie is late for a private lesson, so Helio offers to teach the class in his brother’s absence.

As a result, you can begin with absolutely no experience and you’ll never feel overwhelmed or confused. Each one-hour lesson addresses one standing and one ground self-defense technique, which are further broken down into simplified drills or “slices” to facilitate the learning process. He arrived in Southern California with nothing but his passion for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and his faith that he would succeed. Once you complete each of the Gracie Combatives lessons three times, and you’ve completed at least 12 Reflex Development Classes, you are eligible to test for your Gracie Combatives belt!

And since they are teaching direct-to-camera exclusively for at-home viewers (versus simply filming the group classes at their school), they never feel rushed and they go into incredible detail for each “slice” (or variation) of the techniques.

If you modify a technique, you must verify that the new variation keeps you safe from all potentially dangerous strikes. Just got the Gracie Bullyproof program yesterday and as soon as I come home from work my 5 year old has his Gi on waiting at the door for me ready to do Lesson 1: Spider Kid.In every Gracie University lesson, you get both Ryron and Rener communicating, collaborating, and debating (often hilariously) about the techniques.
