About this deal

No one should feel pressured to disclose their labels—except me, of course, because I owed that information to my readers. Luckily, her job at her cousin’s restaurant brings her into contact with Javi, who is willing to help her break it. i hope they continue to be told, because for as long as straight is the default, there will always be someone coming out.

neither felt like it was overpowering the other, and because i’m a romance reader first and everything else second, i loved this approach by the author. For any young queer girls who have experienced imposter syndrome in accordance with their identities; ‘Imogen, Obviously’ is a love letter to you. Whether you related to someone within the Simonverse, a character in her stand-alone books like Kate in Waiting, or even a new face in the What If It’s Us series that she’s written with her IRL BFF Adam Silvera, it feels like there’s always been someone for anyone. And as much as I understand Imogen wrestling with whether she was hetero or actually liked Tessa, 'in that way', it just did not work for me.

The halls of Lili’s dorm are narrow, with white cinder-block walls, tightly looped gray carpets, and the same rectangular fluorescent light fixtures we have at school. As she figures out her future (including what college she wants to go to), Imogen also tries to find out if what she’s feeling is real or not. Via Imogen’s wryly funny first-person narration, Albertalli crafts a striking portrait of one teenager’s experience navigating sexual fluidity and the sometimes overwhelming fear of reinventing oneself.

I feel terribly sorry for her, being outed is horrifying and scary and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I threw in the towel at 230 pages, just did not really care anymore as too many blocks to Imogen and Tessa finally being a thing. her adhd mind spirals a lot and boats out random things, making reading the text messages very entertaining. Being queer is also the main part of their personality for them, we're literally introduced to the characters as "this is Lili and those are her queer friends" like? There is no right or wrong way to be queer, and you should NEVER invalidate someone's sexuality, but there is something to be said for queer people getting to tell their stories or have their opinions heard in queer spaces.

But now, nearly three years after her own complicated and public coming out journey, she’s ready to reflect on those experiences with Imogen, Obviously. she’s the type of person who believes girls can’t be queer if they’re girly, wear high heels, or are very feminine, or if you listen to certain music, or hang with certain groups. What are some of your other favorite queer stories that you’d recommend for listeners who loved Imogen, Obviously ? even though it was 400+ pages i couldn't put it down, and flew through the whole thing in a couple of hours today!

My conclusion is that I really don't know the right answers, but I think what I'm trying to say is that raising some concerns can be valid. Imogen has no personal connection to this fictional actress, but she’s deeply affected by this discourse—just like my own listeners were affected by the discourse about me.The sensational new novel from Becky Albertalli, best-selling author of Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda.

She’s wrapped in a pink, yellow, and turquoise flag, and I’m leaning against her, elbow propped on her shoulder. it wouldn't surprise me at all if this book started out as a fanfiction for a fandom with pre-made characters and thus there would have been no need to properly describe their personalities because they would have been implied to the reader from the start. But unlike someone in this book, I'm not going to pretend that my queer opinion is the final word on this book and can definitely acknowledge a lot of reasons that other people would enjoy it. Mortal Tamsin has been working as a Hollower for the last decade, breaking into crypts and stealing treasure to keep herself and her brother, Cabell, alive. imogen starts off thinking of tessa only as a friend, but the more she hangs out with her and texts her (the text messages were so cute! I praised Going Bicoastal for having a character who is already openly out of the closet and proudly bisexual at the start of that book, but I think there's still definitely merit too books where the main character is discovering their sexuality. I've just had the misfortune of seeing the UK cover, and that is an actual crime what they did to it.
