About this deal

White skillfully balances the terrifying solo experiences of individual characters, the tense group dynamics, and the park’s backstory to create a constantly shifting narrative backed by a growing sense of dread. From veterans trying to come to terms with loneliness and PTSD to a self-obsessed Crossfit instructor, a wannabe Instagram model, and the child of a religious cult, these are all wounded and lost souls, each looking for a way to reintroduce meaning and hope to their lives. And how did they convince everyone else to go along with something that is, to put it very kindly, clearly and objectively crazy? My only concern is there are too many characters and some of them are truly annoying and easy to forget.

I just read another book that centered around a groups of kids dying in an amusement park and it was a big let down. Not only that, she’s still dealing with the death of her son from years before when he was gunned down in the street while being robbed. There are a lot of viewpoints, so it was quite the feat, and I thought she did an excellent job for the female characters. I don't want to reveal too much to avoid spoilers, but there are a couple twists included that were plenty shocking. Freud, Civilization and Its DiscontentsJosh, or Josiah, is a 20-year-old lower-class youth, working “on the stalls” at an amusement arcade in what reads like Brighton.

The setting is deeply creepy, fully realized, and genuinely frightening at multiple points (I can’t be the only person who hates clowns). Nothing remotely interesting happened until about 70+ pages in when I was wondering what exactly am I reading because nothing horrific was happening. A little bit psychological thriller and a little bit police procedural, this novel seemed to expertly blend the two. As a Black woman in a male-dominated department, Foster anticipates a rocky road ahead acclimating to a new team—and building trust with her new partner isn’t coming easily. Changing seasonally and featuring innovative, theatrical dishes presented with finesse, the tasting menu represents the very best HIDEhas to offer.

I liked how she represented the Black woman in the police department though, and how her character shows us the challenges female detectives in general still have to face. proclaims the story to be: an of-the-moment, scarily precise diagnosis of class and privilege and generational wealth. You REALLY want to know where the people who disappear are going, what's the big mystery behind it, who the creators of this game are and what the purpose of it all is. don't worry about keeping track of all fourteen characters, because the bodies start dropping so quickly that the first batch of cannon-fodder contestants don't even get fleshed out beyond the broad strokes of their personalities before they're gone.

Not in the sense that it feels like White is angling for a sequel—far from it—but more of a choose your own adventure vibe where you as the reader can decide what’s most likely to have happened on the black page after the final period. Ava, Brandon, and LeGrand rounded out our primary cast of characters, and I enjoyed that each of them was developed with backstories and motivations on a deeper level than the other contestants so we could connect with them. Overall, "Hide" was an unsatisfactory introduction, by an experienced author, of her latest protagonist, Detective Harriet Foster. Tracy Clark, a native Chicagoan, is the author of the Cass Raines Chicago Mystery series, featuring ex-cop turned PI Cassandra Raines. Then, the mutilated body of another young woman is found, not far from Riverwalk, one with similar features and markings to those on Peggy Birch.

Unsworth was twice married, to Valerie Moor, 1959 with whom he had three daughters (marriage dissolved, 1991), and to Aira Pohjanvaara-Buffa, 1992.Hide is a procedural murder mystery centering around detective Harriet Foster, a tenured Chicago police detective who just started a new job after suffering a series of personal and professional heartbreaks. Then we’re introduced to Mack with mysterious back story, living in the shelters, acting like a wallflower, without anything to lose, finding herself to attend a very special hide and seek game! The only clue is a little bold sentence at the end of the blurb, I should have paid closer attention. But as the people around her begin disappearing one by one, Mack realizes this competition is more sinister than even she imagined, and that together might be the only way to survive.
