She graduated from Canterbury College of Art in 1973 and was the illustrator and author of more than 150 witty, imaginative, irreverent and thought-provoking picture books for children including the bestselling, stereotype-defying Princess Smartypants.

This book is one that is easily shared with a boy or girl who is starting to show signs of puberty--no matter what your level of comfort with "the talk". Hair in Funny Places is an excellent basic introduction for young, pre-pubescent boys and girls alike, which does much to normalise the experience and pave the way for future discussions. Although the illustrations of hormones as hairy, ugly monsters is a bit bizarre (though probably more true than we would like to admit), we really enjoyed this book. Much of her work is earthy comedy, having titles like The Smelly Book, The Hairy Book, The Slimy Book and The Silly Book.Puberty being a particularly unsettling time, Babette Cole has made this the subject of the fifth title in her bestselling series of 'family dilemmas'.

Here, in response to a girl's query to her teddy bear about the process of growing up, she whips up ""Mr. She wrote and illustrated more than 150 children's books including Nungu and the Hippopotamus, Doctor Dog, Mummy Laid an Egg, The Smelly Book, Beware of the Vet, Two of Everything, Hair in Funny Places, and The Trouble with series. When parents hear their children laughing, the children can say they're reading and learning at the same time. It can be used to have or start conversations with kids about growth and changes ( physical and emotional), body positivity , consent and safety, reproduction.

The text, which takes the form of a conversation between a small girl and her teddy bear, is ingenious and funny.Who else but Babette Cole would have the audacity to tackle puberty in a picture book - and the comic genius to make it work? Cole's madcap style leaves no room for embarrassment; it could pave the way for more informative discussions between kids and adults. I really didn't care for the illustrations in this book, and the way it was written was actually mildly annoying (Mr.

do not read this out loud at the local library or your daughter to will give you a filthy look too, great funny informative book that explains all the things that happen to a girl in story format awesome read. Hilarious illustrations of Mr and Mrs Hormone wreaking their revenge on the body, mixing their "Essence of Pube" and making mischief in the unsuspecting bodies of boys and girls as they fight their way towards adulthood will certainly raise a smile.

But it is the frankness and simplicity of the text that really bites, encouraging an understanding of one of the most difficult phases in a human being's life. Hormone"" and their dog, a vile little trio who ""live inside you"" and ""mix the potions that turn children into adults. Gleeful as ever in her cataloguing of gas-passing, nose-picking and other improprieties, Cole (The Bad Good Manners Book) introduces an almost incorrigible child.
