About this deal

Produced in the Valley of the Deer, this distinct whisky is widely proclaimed to be the best dram in the valley.

Year on year, this Solera vat is never emptied but is always kept at least half full creating a deliciously harmonious and intense whisky which gets more complex and intriguing every year. All the taste of Christmas come out in this wonderful dram, it’s full of sweet delights, honey and vanilla, Demerara sugar and finished of with lovely eastern promise, ginger, cinnamon and a little oak. The solera system has married the whiskies magnificently and produced a layered, complex and well-balanced spirit. Reviews also state that the aroma of steamed apple and a little acidic, bitter smell overwhelms the nose at first. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it to be accurate, it is not a substitute for reading the product packaging and label prior to use.

This 15-year old Glenfiddich expression consists of 3 different elements: 1) whiskies aged in ex-sherry casks, 2) whiskies aged in ex-bourbon casks, and 3) whiskies aged in ex-bourbon casks that are then finished for 3-6 months in virgin oak casks. Having sampled many more varieties since my first taste of the 15, I agree about the low ABV being a hindrance to this one excelling. Therefore, the Glenfiddich 15 that’s bottled today still contains a little of every other batch that’s been made since the tun was first filled in 1998. Have not had it in years so I don't know what I'd make of it now, but I'm pretty sure it'd still be a tasty dram. The distinct taste of Glenfiddich is ideal to drink neat, over ice, or alternatively, get creative and experiment with cocktails.

I'm surprised your bottle lasted 2 years, as I find that if I don't finish an open bottle within 2 months, it oxidizes and changes flavors. Never emptied, and kept half full of whiskies since 1998, our Solera Vat is the culmination of curious minds and the pioneering spirit of our family. Or maybe an easier way to explain it would be to say you have a bottle of whisky, it's an empty bottle of whisky so what you do is all the bits and bobs from your other bottles, the bottles that only have a dram or two left, you combine them together and as you drink from this combined bottle, you'd replace what you drank with more whisky so even years later you're still getting a little bit of the original bottling. If you want a break from salt and smoke, this expression provides a warm, peaceful, affordable dram with a pleasant personality. Operational since 1887, Glenfiddich revolutionized the world of single malt whisky—and Scotch whisky branding more generally—and continues to remain one of the top selling single malt scotch whiskies in the world. Similar to the nose fruity flavours take centre stage, this time it is oranges and apples, followed by some vanilla flavours and a hint of cinnamon. This is more exotic than Glenfiddich 12 but the taste and especially the aftertaste leaves me weeping for more character.

As the whisky opens up, chewy toffee becomes apparent, transforming into the smell of overnight French toast—dense pumpernickel bread soaked in brown sugar and butter caramelizing together in perfect harmony. This whisky is quite interesting as it’s matured in 3 types of casks (American bourbon, Portuguese sherry and virgin oak), After which the whisky is married in a Solera vat .As the whisky opens up, chewy toffee emerges, giving way to the aroma of overnight French toast — dense pumpernickel bread steeped in brown sugar and butter caramelizing in perfect harmony. This would be a great drink to break out and share with some friends and relax with, particularly if they don't all drink whisky often. Silky smooth, with hints of sherry oak, marzipan, cinnamon, and ginger, it is full-bodied and flavorful. A lovely nose delivering typical sherry notes of candied oranges, dates and figs, a lovely fresh citrus aroma of orange, spices like cinnamon and ginger, honey and vanilla, all in one single bottle. Talexander,I,like many people on this site, have never really had time for Glenfiddich (or Glenlivet) because of the uninspiring nature of their entry level whiskies.
