About this deal

So when the books at her owner Peter’s school have disappeared one morning, Detective Dog Nell is ready to sniff out the culprit! He comes up with an audacious plan but also has to cope with his beloved Nonno being taken to hospital with a stroke – oh, and first love, too. I think the book reflects that dogs don't have to be just a pet, they can be good therapy for children in supporting them.

The Detective Dog by Julia Donaldson - Pan Macmillan

Unable to face another anodyne story from her Pink Kitten book, Sophie adapts one to make it more to her liking – a thriller involving lightsabers, rocket launchers and robot dinosaurs. But when she turns up to find the children distraught because the books are gone, can she save the day and track down the thief? Create a story map that shows the locations in the story and has labels that describe what happened in each place? The show is accessible to D/deaf children and their families by using clever dynamic captions and incorporated British Sign Language.

It’s a story shot through with Vere’s trademark irreverent wit, which will keep adult readers amused through multiple readings. Continuing the theme of stories within stories is Nibbles: The Book Monster by Emma Yarlett (Little Tiger), about a monster who loves to munch books and chomps his way furiously into other people’s stories, represented as actual mini books within the book. But going through the book, it's clear this is modern, though seems inspired with an older illustration and colouring style. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. A cute dog in colorful backdrops, a fun rhyming prose and a mysterious case of missing books make this a really fun and engaging read! I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married. If your children enjoy these The Detective Dog activity sheets, we have even more ideas for indoor fun for kids. We build and maintain all our own systems, but we don’t charge for access, sell user information, or run ads. There are some Julia Donaldson books that don't work for me (Highway Rat being a good example) but this one does.

This is a beautiful story about not just Nell, but about the love of books, and libraries, and kids, and community. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. With its tents that sleep 50, bad food and guards of varying dispositions, it’s the only world he knows, apart from the stories he hears in the camp, and through Jimmie, a girl from “Outside” who sneaks under the fence to meet him. On finding the books Ted, the thief, is shown to the library when he can take as many books as he likes.

The rhyming helps jolly along the story but it is the message of the importance of literature and libraries is an excellent one. She began writing songs for children's television but has focused on writing books when the words of one of her songs - A Squash and a Squeeze were made into a children's book in 1993. To make the badges we started by cutting some wood with a hand saw either into rectangles or discs, depending on which shape the children preferred. Bold watercolor-and-pencil illustrations give all the characters distinct personalities and plant funny details to spot in the busy double-page spreads.
