About this deal

Able to absorb 12L of water, it is simple and easy to use, with many of the standard features of its more expensive competitors. That said, the ProBreeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier is also larger in size, measuring H30 x W22 x D16cm compared to the Russell Hobbs' H22 x W14 x D14cm frame. This unit will work well in small properties with around three bedrooms, as it has a powerful extraction rate.

Firstly, it's smart; using an app from your phone, you can control it from anywhere, even on the school run or while at the supermarket. Dehumidifier sales start to climb as soon as the autumn weather rolls in and our homes start to struggle with damp, and more of us are attempting to dry washing indoors. A few years ago, I bought a cheap one which only had a few litre capacity, and it didn't do anything to affect the moisture in the air.

As well as removing excess moisture from the air, it can also clean the air, thanks to the built-in HEPA filter. Heading towards the pricier end of our best dehumidifiers round-up is the Inventor EVA ION PRO Wi-Fi 20L Dehumidifier. Plus, all offer a built-in air purification function to improve air quality within the home in more ways than one.

Just like the larger model, the 10L has a laundry mode to dry your washing, and can double as an air purifier with the bundled HEPA filter inserted – although we found it a little less effective in our air-purifying tests than most dedicated models. The whole thing can be controlled via your smartphone, but some reviewers say they found the app complicated and difficult to navigate. The wave-shaped surface of the top helps to enhance circulation and air exposure, collecting as much moisture as possible as a solution in the container.Although this dehumidifier doesn’t have a dedicated laundry mode, it worked well when it came to drying clothes, especially when on full speed. This reusable dehumidifier doesn’t run on any electricity, so you can place it where you like, and it will still collect a lot of moisture from the air. If you need a dehumidifier capable of reducing moisture in a larger space or have more significant damp levels, then you need a dehumidifier with a high extraction rate.

Despite its small size, it can collect up to 500ml of water – ideal for small spaces, such as kitchens, bathrooms or even in damp spots such as under the stairs.

Not only that, a good dehumidifier will reduce dust and allergens in the air, as well as help reduce any odours. Dehumidifiers do not kill mould, but they help make it inert and stop it from spreading (the spores love humid air!

That said, in our tests it also worked brilliantly during normal use, quickly reducing humidity and making fast work of drying wet washing. Most will work above 5°C, but they're most efficient at an ambient temperature of around 20°C (depending on the individual model). We tested the laundry function, using it to dry a range of clothing – from light pillowcases to thick denim – and found it worked extremely well. However, they are ideal for a cold garage, loft or conservatory as they can operate below 10 degrees, unlike a compressor dehumidifier.
