Book 2 has the heart and humor like book 1, but the plot is enhanced and full of revelations while remaining true to book one and not backtracking. Patrick asks Barney to say hi to his parents so they know he is okay, but he doesn't after hearing an insulting comment towards him.Barney convinces her that running away from her problems doesn't work as he had tried to do the same. After walking to the haunted house and entering, they meet Courtney, a demon who disguises herself as part of the attraction. But Courtney was so popular in the tv show that I made sure book 3 gave that character some good closure.

Weirdly enough, THE BROKEN HALO feels more like a cohesive story, which I initially thought I wanted from THE WATCHER'S TEST - but maybe not so much? Following the aftermath of the destruction of Dead End, the characters mostly split up and have their own adventures.The story takes some twists that I wouldn’t have expected when completing the first book, but I had so much fun reading it. He tries to continue his mission but finds he cannot bring himself to kill Barney; Courtney explains that just like her, he had developed a fondness for humans. I must admit I hope it is a trilogy, and that Steele goes on to something a bit more interesting after the next volume. Pugsley still has a bit of Temeluchus inside him, because of this he has gained the ability to talk, use magic and easily walk on two legs. I naively believed the show would release in a world even more accepting then the one we’d pitched the show in.
