About this deal

As soon as I read that blurb, I knew I was going to love it, and I was so gripped the whole way and just could NOT believe that ending. I was thinking FOUR ⭐️ for much of the book, but after I finished and saw how it all came together, I had to bump it up to FIVE STARS!

I am an avid reader and I love fantasy, historical fiction, mysteries, children’s and middle grade stories, but I will read just about anything if it sounds like my cup of tea. The family is bustling around when Nancy notices that Nana‘s body has disappears and someone left a VHS tape in its place. Some traveled from other countries just to watch my open-heart surgeries; it made me feel like a superstar and a freak at the same time. Eccentric at best, she dresses only in pink and purple, has a wall of 80 clocks she has collected-one for every year of her life-and has her guests punch in on a time clock.Brooks is a pro at building suspense even if it plays out in some rather spectacularly yucky episodes, one involving a short spear that takes its name from “the sucking sound of pulling it out of the dead man’s heart and lungs. Her mother is awful, but Trixie isn’t and I think that’s why I really enjoyed reading about her, especially because I feel like she and Daisy had a good relationship as they were both kind of outcasts in their family. Our Missing Heartsis an old story made new, ofthe ways supposedly civilized communities can ignore the most searing injustice. Daisy Darker definitely had a different feel than Alice Feeney’s other books, a more classic mystery feel.

The first murder in the book happens around high tide, meaning that the Darker family is trapped in the house, cut off from civilization, for the next six hours. Daisy Darker, the narrator, was born with a heart condition and was told she wouldn’t live past the age of 15. Her books have been translated into over thirty languages, and have been optioned for major screen adaptations. It’s easy to sympathize with Daisy and her longing to have an affectionate family, and also pity her for being stuck with these people . Daisy is twisty, loaded with gloomy atmosphere, and what’s more fun than watching a family rip each other to bits? But this tale has a different twist ending that, despite some clever construction throughout the book, doesn’t quite convince. The author did a great job of keeping me engaged and interested throughout, I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next and get the full reveal at the end — which was soooooo good by the way! If this all sounds a little like Agatha Christie’s bestseller And Then There Were None, that’s probably no accident.
