About this deal

If you’ve read the first book – named simply Crater Lake – you’ll know that Jennifer Killick has a skill in balancing horror with comedy. At the times in my life when I have been the most afraid, laughter has given me the strength to carry on.

Thrills, chills ( not too gory) and lots of humour helps keep the pace of this book going so that at times you forget to breathe! I felt this worked really well, looking at the need to conform in a new school suddenly so much larger than their old primary school, the pressures that puts on old friendships and the need to be more tolerant and understanding. It begins with a class of children on a coach to a new activity centre, and soon descends into horror when the coach is stopped by a bloodstained man who warns them not to go to Crater Lake. Will his friends and classmates realise the true competence of somebody marginalised as the class clown, destined to fail? Not My Fault suggested some of the potential horrors of school journey, however Jennifer Killick ramps the drama up by several thousand notches! Firstly, if you have not read Crater Lake - the book that precedes this new release - then you are really missing out.

When her spaceship is attacked and all adults incapacitated, 13 year old Beth is appointed new Captain of the Orion. This inaugural stay at Crater Lake is going to be a fight for survival between a bunch of mismatched teens and a swarm of unexpected enemies. Very quickly, the group of classmates realise that there is one thing they must not do if they are going to stay alive: they must never, ever, fall asleep. This is definitely titled correctly with “Evolution” since this second book was even better possibly than the 1st!Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. Things don’t start too well when their coach is stopped by a man covered with blood who is rambling about Bears in the woods. I am worried that my school has booked a trip for the end of my Year Six and it sounds exactly like Crater Lake! Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. Old friends have been replaced by new ones and personalities are rapidly changing as Lance and his old gang adapt to their new school surroundings where they are all just trying to fit in.
