I dont understand why you are installing an access on the outside of the c/breast when you have, presumably, an inside fireplace? SOLD* Cast Iron soot door that would have been used to gain access to chimneys for sweeping from outside a property. The chimney has double walls with a cavity and I am not sure what to do about the cavity when fitting the soot door. If the building appears to be older, you could have a chimney system made of concrete, pumice or clay.
