About this deal

The only thing that may jar some readers is the imperfect rhyme at the beginning, "fuel" and "full"--it was pointed out to me that the book was originally published in England, where the original "petrol" would have rhymed much better. The first couple of times reading this to the tune of Baa, baa, black sheep I had trouble with some of the rhyming and awkward word placement. If you’d like, you could use another carboard circle or paper plate to make a steering wheel and stick it inside the car. Filled with Nick Sharratt's bold, bright and instantly recognisable illustrations, we follow the journey of a car as it fills up with fuel and is driven up and down hills, through traffic, into the countryside and finally back home. The illustrations are bright and friendly, inviting the littlest readers to explore their thick lines and bold shapes.

A great picture book to read (or even sing) aloud - who doesn't know the tune to "Baa Baa Black Sheep"? Nick Sharratt has created illustrations for over two hundred and fifty books during his illustrious career.Nick Sharrat’s bright illustrations pair well with text featuring onomatopoeia that can be sung to the tune of “Baa Baa Black Sheep. We will be in the middle of another book and he will stop me to grab Car Car Truck Jeep off of the shelf. Including everything from dumper trucks and trains to hovercraft and motorbikes, this cheery picture book is enriched by Nick Sharratt’s trademark illustrations in bold primary colours. Lovely, bold illustrations give us lots of things to talk about and singing the melody of a well-known tune is an excellent idea!

This book is bursting with cars, buses, planes, trains, trucks, diggers--and many more Things That Go. As we open the book, we set off on a car journey, spotting a range of vehicles on the way, both familiar and less familiar. In fact, he loves them so much, he has written and illustrated this amazing guide to giant vehicles of all kinds. There's noises to make, colours to identify plus I love the female characters shown in typical male roles such as the garage attendant and digger driver, though my favourite has to be the bus with the "Read Books" sign on the side. This afternoon we combined two of our favourite things here at Clare’s Little Tots – cars and drawing. With bold, colourful illustrations by the instantly recognisable Nick Sharratt and text by talented newcomer Katrina Charman, vehicle-obsessed little ones will never want to put this gloriously fun, musical book down.

At the end of the book, all the vehicles park up for the night and drift off to sleep, so it ticks all the boxes for a brilliant bedtime story, too. If you’re making a car big enough for your child to sit in, make sure the hole is big enough for them to fit through easily. Some of the words are a little forced into the tune though, which makes it a little awkward when singing/reading if you aren't expecting it. Nick Sharratt is a longtime favourite in our house for his colourful illustrations, so this was an easy choice when I spotted it at the library.

This book is bursting with cars, buses, planes, trains, trucks, diggers and many more things that go. Our child loves this book, and sometimes will have us read it multiple times, but it hasn't risen to a daily favorite in the last 6 months. A strong choice for board book collections, there is a larger format paperback available that would better for read aloud. This book is fun for infants and toddlers as you sing the baa baa black sheep tune as you read the book. Look out for the different vehicles in the story when you are out and about, eg buses, trucks, emergency vehicles.
