About this deal

He specialises in all things tech and gadget related – from science and health to sports and adventure. If the camera image is not displaying, try switching both Baby and Parent units off and trying again. The camera unit is similarly plastic and solid, but is far more simple with just one slider to power it on and off.

The side of the display does feature a red light if the battery is low, a blue light when it’s charging and a green light to show the camera is connected. The talkback function works well, however my baby is not particularly settled just by hearing my voice as he likes to see me and be held by me. However, if you’re simply looking for a baby monitor for domestic use, I can’t see the benefit of using an app to watch your baby or control the camera when you can do that from the 6000’s parent unit.colour screen, sound level lights, night vision, portable parent unit, up to 250m range, manual pan/tilt mechanism with zoom, temperature display. The sound light levels allow you to have a visual indication of noise when you don’t want to be fully alerted of every snuffle or cry. A small diffused amber light will displays to indicate the unit is on – something that might distract your little one, but generally isn’t bright enough to be an issue. It behaves exactly how you would expect: the parent unit beeps from time to time when the battery is low, and the battery icon on the display turns red.

Since this is a plug-and-play closed system, you can use it anywhere – on holiday, for example – without faffing about with Wi-Fi. If it’s important to you that you can see your baby when you’re away from home, the app connectivity would be a must.

The Video Baby Monitor 6000 is BT’s most expensive video baby monitor, and replaces the brand’s Video Monitor 7500 Lightshow model.

There’s no shortage of features including sound sensors, auto night vision, a push-to-talk system, and that big display.

These ranges can only be achieved in ideal conditions when there is a clear line of sight between the Baby and Parent unit. display on the parent unit is conveniently portable, allowing you to move freely around your home while still keeping a watchful eye on your baby. Selecting a lullaby and a volume level, panning and tilting the camera, setting a reminder and switching to standby mode are all a doddle. The fact that the screen size is large means the graininess isn’t really an issue, as you can still clearly see whether your baby’s chest rising as they breathe and whether they are asleep or awake, depending of course on the position of the camera.

The Parent unit may be out of range of the baby unit; if this is the case, the parent unit will beep to let you know. When it comes to creating wireless devices with good range, BT has been at it for years with home phones. The amber light on the camera cannot be switched off or dimmed but covering this light should not impact how it functions. It’s easy to move around and would be fairly compact if you were packing it to take away on a trip as well. In this respect it isn’t much different from the cheaper models, the 3000 and the 5000, apart from the larger display.
