About this deal

I was hoping for a bit more in terms of unused concept art and development – I always find stuff like that fascinating - but I can’t say that I was disappointed as I still really enjoyed this and was absorbed by the artwork. The artwork in Bloodborne is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen in a video game, but I was expecting more from this book. I was happy to finally get this artbook as Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time and served as my entry point to From Software's dark (and punishing) fantasy worlds. I rewcently purchased for a student at the library where I work and when it arrived I ended reading it because the artwork is so beautiful. I was really looking forward to immersing myself in concept art and early iterations of character and set designs.

I've never played the game (don't think it's on Xbox) but if I ever get the chance to, I definitely would. Gothic Victorian exaggerations that wouldn't be out of place in a Dracula anime; connections between werewolves, lunar cycle, blood, and birth; and a Lovecraftian twist that I actually like more than his actual stories.

They released their first video game, titled King's Field, as a launch title for the PlayStation in 1994. FromSoftware was founded on November 1, 1986, and developed productivity software for the first several years of their existence.

While the artworks are fantastic and they give some details that can be easily missed during your gameplay, I found two problems within this artbook, the first is that there's only used official concept art (I guess now is kind of obvious since its "Official Artworks"), so no early versions or alt versions of anything, the second is the paper they used to make this book, while the quality and the printing are great, the paper is just way too glossy and since there is a lot of black and dark environments decrypted in the book, its kinda hard to watch it if you don't have an appropriate lighting. These guides are your key to mastering the merciless challenges and navigating the darkest depths of the city.

After releasing a third title in that series, FromSoftware moved on to release Echo Night as well as Shadow Tower in 1998. Included are character concepts, creature designs, location illustrations, weapons, items, and more!

Your hunt through the streets of Yharnam will be your most exciting and rewarding journey yet, and the road will be hard. Nonetheless, I'm happy with what I got as there are details in this artbook that are not visible clearly when playing a game so it was a great experience to study each image minutely. One would be hard pressed to find material in the book that they could not find in game or from YouTube videos that analyze the lore and aesthetics of locations in the game. Old architecture always sparked my interest so I spent half of my gaming time simply admiring the work that went into designing the game's Victorian architecture, streets, benches, castles and even streetlamps (I'll get one of those for my house). From Dark Souls to Elden Ring, each game had something new to offer me in terms of combat difficulty, fantasy settings and memorable bosses (I'm currently playing Sekiro, love the medieval Japanese setting). IGN would later note that the latter was "effectively a King's Field follow-up" as it shared many of the gameplay conventions of its brethren.
