About this deal
If you already have a tumble dryer and are thinking of making a swap, it will also depend on what type of tumble dryer you already own.
This is perhaps a tad optimistic, though, and will be entirely dependent on the thickness of your clothes. The compact hanger design works by blowing hot air down onto whatever it’s holding (our testers managed to clip in single items of clothing and a pillow case), making it perfect for travel or for when you need one item dried in a hurry. We tested their weights by seeing if we could lift or push them one handed, and we came back to each airer every hour to try to work out which had the fastest drying times. The Black + Decker 3 Tier Heated Airer arrived folded down, held in place with a couple of cable ties. It may not sound like much, but it does make hanging longer items without them touching the clothes on the tier below more challenging.
Although it’s longer horizontally than the tiered airers we tested, there’s something quite refreshing about it’s dimutive height. When it came to drying our laundry, it dealt with bedding in under two hours, but unfortunately, it didn’t eliminate creases entirely. Blossom enjoys delving into the intricacies of products and refining testing protocols for hundreds of items. All heated airers are stable enough to hold a full load of washing, but some were more flexible and easy to topple than our top recommendations.
Clothes were dry (and handily crease-free) within four hours, while bedding took one and a half hours. But it’s the only airer we tested with wheels, which were helpful when it came to steering it to a clear drying spot in the corner. There’s no struggle to squeeze a top or a pair of trousers into the middle rail, for example, you can simply throw the clothes over it as fast as you can and get on with something else.We liked that it could be used with the wings extended or collapsed, so we could shorten the length if we only had a small load of washing to dry. It cost eight pence an hour to run and has some attractive features, including an LED temperature reader and built-in UV sterilisation to give your garments an added clean.
