Thanks to Amy's memories of her, and also the letters, th To top it off, Amy seems pretty darn ungrateful towards her best friend (who saved her life as a baby).

Then it’s on to Bath, where she encounters the novel’s only truly entertaining character, the octogenarian socialite and protofeminist Mrs.At the time it felt as though she—and those opening scenes—just tumbled into my brain out of nowhere. I felt it was important that Amy had the information she needed about someone who was, after all, a central figure during her time in Bath, to validate the intermittent reservations she had felt about him throughout their acquaintance, without taking her into a new avenue for drama.

The ending is a boring, bland mess full of characters I really don't care about and tying up loose ends that would have been more interesting left untied. For those who know my pet-peeve with novels set in the Victorian era, Queen Victoria doesn't make a appearance but she's referenced frequently at the beginning. This in turn would have slowed down the resolution of the two main plot lines at a stage where the reader has already followed Amy through a considerable number of ups and downs. Amy Snow if found as a baby on the estate of Hatville Court and is rescued and grows up a companion (soul-mate), to the heiress Aurelia. Therefore, although she is aware from a very young age of the issues that confront Aurelia regarding her marital prospects, these difficulties have an intensely personal feel for her.uk/landing-page/quercus/quercus-company-information/">The data controller is Quercus Editions Ltd. The chill in my bones is nothing to the freeze in my heart and no congenial company on earth could compensate me for the lack of Aurelia. The book is padded with Amy’s ineffectual ruminations about courses followed or not followed, and a crucial revelation comes about via the hackneyed device of an overheard conversation. How can the relationships we have with friends sometimes feel as strong and unbreakable as those we have with family?
