These women, in a roundabout way, are my own Old Joan (don't take offense to the descriptor, ladies).

There have been several appearances on the Today Show, Good Morning America, ten book tours, and numerous articles headlining me as the “woman who got away,” the runaway wife,” or “the woman who took a sabbatical. But in her effort to distill Joan Erikson's "wisdom" into short, meaningful sound-bytes, she takes most of the meaning out. Both sisters are strong but Willa can be pigheaded and Sean is a great guy but puts his career first which makes Willa upset at times. There is so much that we eat that is poisonous or dangerous to dogs, and prevalent in packed lunches. If Sean had given up the biggest project of his career for his beloved wife who might be dying, that I would understand, but just to support the woman whose sister is dying that he’s just started dating and thinks he’s in love with?

I highly recommend reading this book to anyone looking for a view into the friendship of these women. Sean O’Malley is as charming as he is intriguing—a freelance photographer whose assignments take him to the ends of the earth. But their relationship gets tested on a couple of fronts and Willa is not sure their relationship can withstand the pressure. He is a free-lance photographer and is often away on photo shoots, not only in the US but in places like South America where it is difficult to find internet or cell phone availability.Sean is attracted to Willa and can't seem to find the courage to ask her out until Harper forces the two to interact. This is the third book I've read by Joan Anderson, the previous ones being A Year by the Sea and An Unfinished Marriage. I liked the brother and his story line but I feel he was just an after thought and brought in every now and then and once he got married we never heard from him again. During the rest of the book, Joan Erikson was working on an addition to her husband's (Erik Erikson) work, and most of the conversations revolved around that.
