Midrash Rabbah: Genesis, Volume One, translated by Rabbi Dr. H. Freedman; London: Soncino Press, 1983; ISBN 0-900689-38-2; p. 180. According to Genesis 4:1–16, Cain treacherously murdered his brother, Abel, lied about the murder to God, and as a result, was cursed and marked for life. With the earth left cursed to drink Abel's blood, Cain was no longer able to farm the land. He becomes a "fugitive and wanderer", and receives a mark from God - commonly referred to as the mark of Cain - so that no one can enact vengeance on him. [3] The Dark Tyrant: Caine as a wrathful figure who will judge over the sins of his descendants with biblical vengeance, ruling over them for a thousand years covered in darkness.

A record of discovery and adventure Vol. 1. London R. Bentley & Son. pp.130–31.A Talmudic tradition says that after Cain had murdered his brother, God made a horn grow on his head. Later, Cain was killed at the hands of his great-grandson Lamech, who mistook him for a wild beast. [32] A Christian version of this tradition from the time of the Crusades holds that the slaying of Cain by Lamech took place on a mound called "Cain Mons" (i.e. Mount Cain), which is a corruption of "Caymont", a Crusader fort in Tel Yokneam in modern-day Israel. [33] The Great King of Blood and Darkness: In Dies Ignis, Caine is depicted as the first being to deny the gifts of the "One Giver" in place of his own gifts, and thus as the one whose "gifts" tainted the rebel angels and caused them to become demons. If you are like us, your eyes glaze over while reading these lengthy Bible genealogies. You may leap right over those old Hebrew names. Almost anything else about Caine's attributes follows the Biblical description: if Caine is harmed, the damage is returned sevenfold. In addition, Caine is marked with a sign of God's displeasure. According to a Toreador legend, while being amongst the mortals, Caine noticed a couple who were very much in love. Seeing their love amplified his own loneliness in sin, and so having dwelt on his sin for an eon, Caine thought that maybe he could reconcile something in his nature by Embracing them with the gift of immortality, so that their love would live for all eternity. However, after having been Embraced, the lovers discovered that they could not have children together as they wished. In an act of utter despair, they both walked into the sunlight to their Final Death. Caine was so heartbroken over this event that he forbade anyone to ever speak their names in his presence or otherwise. Thus, their names were lost to history. [10]

Caine continued to wander the Land of Nod in loneliness, the memory of his sin drowning him in sorrow. It was many ages before he decided to be amongst mortal men again. His powers and his mark were well known to mortal men, and some even worshiped him as a god. Finally, Caine settled [9] in a small agricultural community, named Ubar. It was here, in this First City, that he became known as the “ Dark Father.”
