The Stage is the real most notable thing I liked on the IE200. Great width and fantastic depth and height. For me with these tips I really liked the way the Senny presented the stage in a really smooth way. On the plus side, the bass has good speed and does not bleed into the lower-mids in the bright-neutral mode (which is relatively close to the DF-neutral target). The mid-bass is not perfectly flat in the “bass-boosted” mode and imparts some warmth into the lower-mids. It’s a pleasant coloration, however. Sony XBA-4: the Sony has wider, more distinct, instrumental positioning, the treble is more prominent and little more sparkle. The IE 200 sounds a little more distant comparatively. The build quality and finish of my set of IE 200 is perfect, there’s really nothing bad I can say about it. Important to see and note is that the IE 200 has a rib/ridge on the canal so the tip can be held in place. The nozzle is also sealed with a plastic mesh so that dirt and wax can’t easily enter the IEMs. In fact, that mesh logo can be found in the foam tips as well, they share the same design. Sennheiser/Deutsche Gründlichkeit. This remarkable lightness (4g/side) is achieved by using a plastic shell. Despite being all plastic, the IE 200 feel well put together. The left channel has the model number embossed into the shell. The IE 200 nozzle itself is a bit short but the extended L-shaped housing does add some additional penetrative depth so you can get them quite close to your concha basin and with the right tip you can improve both the fit and seal further. Both tip positions are useful for different purposes. The bright-neutral tuning helps in live feed monitoring, while the bass-boosted one is more general-purpose and better for listening to music and watching movies. Apple’s EarPods were, and still are, popular; but their performance wasn’t as great as their popularity indicated. We have reviewed the IE 600 previously though it is a big step in performance and price. The closer sibling is the IE 300 though sadly we have yet to review that one.

One earpiece only weighs about 4 grams, so they’re not heavy in any way. They don’t want to fall out of your ears all the time, though the tip selection helps with that. The cable is very light as well, so it won’t be pulling down on the earpieces either. And with the individually adjustable ear hooks, you can set the monitors just how you want, so they won’t bother you in any way. Sennheiser – based on 15 years of TrueResponse Transducer technology – chose to use their single 7mm driver, which we have seen before. This 7mm XWB (extra wide band) driver is responsible for the extra-wide frequency range and ultra-low harmonic distortion of these earphones. The diffuse-field equalization delivers an amazingly balanced sound. The IE 200 was designed in Germany, but it’s being built in China. The dual fit system means that you can position the tip close to the edge of the nozzle or right down at the base with both positions affecting the small vent at the top of the nozzle to create a different sound signature. Couldn’t test the advertised dual tuning modes as the ear tips would go all the way through when inserted in the ear canals.Without having to concern itself with contemporary features, Sennheiser has been able to prioritise the fundamentals for the IE 300 – build and sound quality. It nails the former, and there’s plenty to like in the latter: they’re bolder and more authoritative-sounding than most, with majestic bass depth and wonderfully rich vocals among the highlights. The highs are not tuned to bombard you with details and upper-harmonics, so if those are the priority – the IE 200 will disappoint. If you appreciate natural-sounding highs, these will align with expectations. Soundstage and imaging Sennheiser is working on a balanced cable to work with the IE200. It's expected sometime in the spring of 2023. For tuning the IEMs, Sennheiser makes extensive use of the nozzle. The IE 200 use a damper within the nozzle to smooth out peaks.

Personally, I like to pair the IE 200 with IFI Zen Dac V2 without bass boost enabled on the DAC-AMP. For on the go, I use it with the LG G8X which also sounds great. The 7mm “TrueResponse” driver has very low Total Harmonic Distortion. This makes the IE 200 ideal for high SPL listening and EQing. The diaphragm is polymer-based, which can mean several things, including PET, PEEK, and such. Sennheiser does not explicitly mention the diaphragm material. Tuning Creative Aurvana Trio: the IE 200 has wider sound staging, its treble is more refined and less cooked, Aurvana’s midrange is a little more elevated, sounding a little more fuller, the bass has also more beef.Unlike the IE600, the IE200 only comes with one cable (3.5mm). It’s different from the newer Sennheiser IEMs. It is a thin braded cable. It has a nice feel to it and is resistant to tangles. Now this is where it gets interesting because aside from the differences in isolation and comfort performance and the associated sound signature changes with each material, they are also designed to work in tandem with the nozzle’s dual-fit system. Audiophile quality in earphones has historically been the domain of high-end products with corresponding prices. But now, in keeping with its tradition of bringing personal high fidelity to the world, Sennheiser has developed the IE 200. The new world of sound is balanced and true-to-life with exceptional resolution which is unique in its price range. Even in your favorite recordings, details you’ve never heard await. This is a fantastic little device that Sennheiser has created that undercuts many of the ChiFi offerings from reputed brands like Moondrop, Tanchjim and Ikko.
