About this deal

Apply seaweed to new lawns as it is great for the soil. It can correct any pH irregularities as it can make the soil more alkaline. When added to a heavy clay soil, alginic acids in seaweed act as a flocculator. This means the fine particles clump together into a friable crumb structure, producing an improved growing medium. Adding it to a sandy soil improves the humus content and increases the nutrient levels. This goes to improve drought resistance. But, it’s worth it. For example, do you spend a lot of time weeding your garden? Or scarifying and raking in an attempt to pull out stubborn moss? What if I told you that you could get a beautifully green lawn and kill weeds and moss all with just one product? And not only that, but with long-lasting results. It is important to use this correctly as you are looking to improve and maintain a greater degree of beneficial organic, bacterial and fungal activity in the soil and lawn. This means a single dose won't do much good. The second dose builds on the first dose perhaps bringing about three times the improvement of the first dose. The increasing improvement continues throughoutthe growing season to achieve a better healthier lawn. This continuously improving scenario is not a lot different from things we may do to improve out health and fitness from diets to exercise routines. Doing either of these for a few days or weeks is not going to make much difference but over the long-term massive benefits can be achieved!

It’s a product that helps preserve the natural appearance of the lawn, for those gardeners who like having daisies and clover poking through as well. Miracle-Gro EverGreen improves the health of the grass but doesn’t contain any weed killing properties. Well, that’s what lawn feed can do. Of course, there are some products which are just lawn food, and some which will also deal with weeds and/or moss. It’s up to you to choose which is most appropriate for your situation. But whatever you go with, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Value for Money Unlike cheaper granular lawn feeds, this fertiliser comes in a homogeneous granular formulation – all the required nutrients are contained, and balanced, within each individual granule. As a result, no area ends up with a higher concentration of one particular nutrient, meaning it’s easier to treat the whole lawn evenly. That said, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to have a supply of both. That way, you can apply lawn feed + weed killer twice a year, but keep the grass topped up with lawn feed the rest of the time. Choosing Liquid or Granular Formulas Grass mulch is great for helping retain the ground's moisture and encourage worms. If your lawnmower has a mulcher already then that's even better because it's free. The trade-off is that it can - not always, but can - encourage weeds. What to read next:Seaweed treated Grass will be greener and produce a healthy dense sward, providing other maintenance work is carried out correctly Lawn is somewhat of an odd phenomenon that has become mainstream. Prior to the emergence of the urban sprawl that took hold after the Second World War, no one except the super-rich had lawn – no one could spare to waste the space. The NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) ratio is 6-9-6, and the high phosphorus content is what helps this product better promote the health of germinating seeds compared to other lawn feeds. Nitrogen is responsible for leaf growth, and potassium encourages plants to grow and function correctly. This lawn feed is particularly effective when used in the autumn through until spring for ridding your lawn of worm casts too, as the slimy remnants can make mowing the grass rather muddy and slippery. But things have thoroughly changed. In the United States alone, over 100,000 square miles of lawn covers the ground, making it their most irrigated crop. Curious, given that lawn is purely for show.

Seaweed has long been used as a soil improver, thanks to its natural content of nitrogen, potassium and phosphates. Endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society, this liquid seaweed stimulant from Plantworks contains organic seaweed extract that improves plant development by increasing chlorophyll production. The feed also contains extra iron from sustainably harvested kelp extract. Of course changing the soil doesn’t happen straight away, but when building a new lawn adding it in will help tremendously for the health of the lawn for the future. How is seaweed applied to lawns? It’s extremely powerful so be sure to use it with caution and experiment with the lowest measurement first: use 1 to 2 grams per litre of water per square metre of lawn and apply with a sprayer for better coverage.

Ever wondered what top sportsgrounds use on their grass? The chances are they’ve used a version of my Lawn Magic, the professional secret of green, healthy and great looking lawns.

Seaweed and Fertiliser Combinations

Many tons have been added to my clay soil, and the soil is more friable. One year my trailer was out of action, and some of those to whom i had given potatoes said they were not up to the usual superb taste! We can see from the instructions on the bottle that it tells us we need 10 milliliters per 2.5 meter squared so I’m going to divide 60 by 2.5 to work out how many lots of 10 milliliters i need. In modern fertilizer use, liquid seaweed makes a highly efficient base for the nutrition of a wide variety of plants. This is because it can be safely mixed with most of the commonly used sources of nitrogen, phosphate and pottassium, along with supplements like iron. The seaweed stimulates the soil bacteria which, in turn, helps to release much of the nutrient content. In many cases these nutrients are fixed in the soil and not available to plants, whether you’re feeding grass, tomatoes, vegetables or flowers. Seaweed combats this, helping you to make the most of any nutrients being applied, and reducing the quantity required for healthy growth. Applied as granules or when incorporated in fertiliser to feed your lawn. This would be especially beneficial after aerating to get it down into the soil.

Due to its diluted nature, it may not necessarily be as strong as granulated products can be, but it’s less likely to scorch the grass and is simpler to apply. Personally, I’m not too fond of the idea of having granules sitting on my lawn for months, but the manufacturer claims they are safe for children and pets but I’m not so sure. This issue of fertiliser use, soil degradation and water pollution has certainly come to the fore in recent years. The intensification of land use on the commercial scale has led to more fertilisers being used. The main ingredients in fertilisers are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. These elements are essential to plants but in excess, they degrade the quality of soil and leach or run off into waterways and have dire effects there. Five liters took me roughly 40 seconds to fill up in the watering can using the hose end sprayer so i know i need 24 lots of five liters as we worked out before. Most of the organic seaweed feed I use is absorbed through the leaves on your lawn. I apply it using a sprayer (it’s liquid) and I make sure that I use a fine nozzle for really accurate application.

Iron for energy

One of the most important things to consider is the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) in the lawn feed. The best lawn feed will have a NPK ratio that suits your garden’s needs – nitrogen encourages leafy growth, phosphorus helps establish roots and potassium helps with overall grass health. For example, my lawn is now moss free, so I don’t need a product with a moss-killing additive; that would just be wasteful. Phosphorus (or phosphate) helps with root development, as strong roots mean less disease and fewer pests. It’s best applied in early spring or autumn. However, it’s inevitable that some of the feed will find it’s way into the soil. And actually, I don’t mind that at all.
