Since its difficult beginnings, Saints Row has been well supported by the development team with continuous development and bug fixes. Bugs were another significant issue at launch. Players reported game crashes, forcing them to restart their consoles or lose progress. Others encountered AI inconsistencies, with non-playable characters (NPCs) acting erratically or not responding as expected, making missions and interactions less immersive. Ranging from classics like infinite ammo and a full heal, these Saints Row codes are the ones you'll use most often. Commit them to memory for a fun time whenever you boot into the game.

Thankfully, Deep Silver Volition put in the effort. Saints Row (2022) has a separate "Accessibility" menu in addition to the thorough game settings, and there are plenty of options, from custom game difficulty settings with sliders for specific parts of the game to individual key binding for the controls, color-blind filters, and various subtitle options. I won't pretend to be an expert on accessibility in video games, but I did take advantage of options to help compensate for my hearing and audio processing issues. The departure from the franchise’s earlier style drew criticism. The game’s developers aimed for a fresh start by introducing a new city, characters, and storylines, but long-time fans felt that it strayed too far from the elements that made the series popular in the first place. As a result, the reception was polarising, with some players enjoying the new direction while others lamented the loss of the franchise’s signature charm and humour. Saints Row is an action-adventure, open-world video game developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver, released in August of 2022. Set in the fictional city of Santo Ileso, the game puts players in control of a customizable character, as they establish a criminal empire, engage in combat, and complete missions.As the future Boss, with Neenah, Kevin and Eli by your side, you’ll form The Saints – and take on Los Panteros, The Idols, and Marshall as you build your empire across the streets of Santo Ileso and battle for control of the city. Ultimately Saints Row is the story of a start-up company, it’s just that the business The Saints are in happens to be crime. Meanwhile, health bars can be recovered with takedowns–delightfully brutish animations which, more often than not, see nearby enemies just stand and watch while you carry them out. It’s a bit weird, but whatever, it’s the only way they’ll work. It’s just a shame you can’t do them to random people like in Saints Row the Third.

These are very, very minor technical complaints though, and do not detract from the overall quality and enjoyability of the game. One of the major complaints at launch was that the open-world element felt inadequate. The “world” felt empty. The city was desolate, one-dimensional and flat. You can use perks and skills to last a little longer in a fight but there aren't any cheats just yet. Before two hard resets, Insurance Fraud missions actively removed all traffic as soon as they started, forcing me to run into parked cars to complete the first three challenges. In Mayhem, the camera went into a super-zoom mode in vehicles, making flying impossible (and forcing yet another hard reset). Success in Riding Shotgun missions hinges on the AI not being moronic, repeatedly getting into blind spots you’re not able to shoot.

For whatever reason, the new Saints Row simply looks worse in still images than it does in-game — possibly because this title's visual fidelity doesn't call for absurdly detailed textures. I felt Saints Row (2022) shined during hands-on playtime rather than zooming into screenshots.

Character customization has always been a part of the Saints Row franchise, and Deep Silver Volition went all out to deliver the most in-depth options of any Saints Row game yet. Saints Row (2022) lets you customize every aspect of your character, vehicles, and weapons, and even features some customization options for your companions, your gang members, and The Saints HQ. Ultimately, where the latest Saints Row game suffers the most is from an issue common among many older open-world titles — draw distance. While we don’t know exactly what the day one patch will contain, the developer has provided a list of “known issues” that are presumably going to be targeted in upcoming patches. The crimes of the Idols range from the sublime to the ridiculous. Anything from petty theft and acts of vandalism to kidnapping, assassination, and even bombings are fair game. As devoted anarchists, they do whatever the hell they want; as long as none of their fellow Idols get hurt, they consider it a blow against the system. Ending the Saints Row hiatus and returning the historic open-world series to relevancy made a reboot of the entire franchise necessary. Older Saints Row games were amazing for their times but fell out of favor in a rapidly evolving industry when they ran out of room to expand.

The Saints are not immortal war gods that use a city as their personal playthings while they rake in power. Instead, The Saints form from the bond between four young humans attempting to make it through a world that doesn't care much for them. Your Boss character is joined by Neenah, Eli, and Kevin, your lifelong friends and constant companions throughout the story. Gameplay fixes for the four missions where the player can die during cinematics, a soft crash occurs, and the next part of an objective failing to trigger.
