Its real strength, though, is that it can control weeds that other weed killers tend to struggle with, including horsetail/mare’s tail and ground elder, as it did on an overgrown bank and a disused veg bed where other weed killers had failed miserably. It’s a good bet if you need a powerful weed killer but you don’t want to spray something really nasty on your plot.
The best weed killer will show visible results within 1 – 2 days. My advice is to look for a large capacity that will treat a surface area of at least 100 m² as these will generally offer the best value for money. Prioritise weed killers that kill the entire plant, including the roots, to prevent the weed from re-sprouting . However, the results are reliably positive, albeit slow – it takes around one week for clover to start visibly yellowing and dying. There may still be the occasional dandelion that needs to be removed by hand after using Weedol Weed Killer, but it does a fairly comprehensive job of clearing the lawn (without harming the lawn itself). This weed control is exceptionally strong, with a single 2 L bottle treating up to 3332 sqm. It would be ideal for those with a badly overgrown allotment or garden, but it’s also a good choice if you’re after a super strong weed killer for deep-rooted weeds. We have so many different types of weed to contend with in the UK that we always need a bottle or two of the best weed killer at hand but which ones that are safe for out pets. Best pet friendly weed killers that are safe Gloves and covered shoes are needed again and I’d recommend wearing tough gardening shoes because I dropped the unit on my foot and it left a bruise. The plastic nozzle is better quality compared to Roundup’s similar offering. It has a finer spray and although it’s a pressure pump too, it doesn’t need as much effort to prime the nozzle. The slightly wider handle means you can use more of your palm to press down and get the pressure ready. On the downside it dribbled much more weedkiller than Roundup. This is not necessarily due to any shortcoming of the herbicide itself, but related to how plants absorb moisture. Most plants absorb more moisture in the cool temperatures of the early morning, but stop when temperatures rise in the afternoon. Some people also choose to use homemade natural weed killers, using a solution of white vinegar, salt and liquid dish soap.

Pelargonic acid is the most commonly found active ingredient in organic weed killers. It’s a naturally occurring acid in geraniums. This acid is generally considered effective at controlling the growth of smaller broadleaf weeds (under 15 cm tall).

Therefore, if a weed killer doesn’t mention being safe for lawns, don’t use it on grass (unless you don’t mind the grass getting scorched). Tough weeds are violent versions of perennial weeds and will continue to grow from pieces of root left in the ground (even after your dedicated efforts to kill them!). Examples include; Brambles, Horsetail and Ivy Bindweed Spraying during windy conditions can also cause the chemicals to spread to areas that you did not intend to treat, killing plants that you wanted to save.

Flower heads should be cut off weeds first, especially dandelions. Finally, look out for a weed killer that comes with a pressure sprayer to make application easier . Some weed killers will need diluting which can be time consuming; however, they often work out cheaper.
