Pure Evoke C-D6 review - Which?

Despite these qualities, rivals offer greater clarity and insight, and they do a better job of communicating dynamic shifts. Built-in Bluetooth lets you choose your favourite music, streaming service or internet radio station and play it direct from your phone or tablet without trailing wires. The Ruark Audio R4 MK3 has a similar design to the Evoke C-D6 and offers similar features including a CD player and Bluetooth as well as FM/DAB/DAB+. The R4 MK3 has superior sound quality to the Evoke C-D6, though it is significantly more expensive. If you’re a real audiophile and want a top-of-the-range radio/CD player, the Ruark Audio R4 MK3 could be what you’re looking for. This radio isn’t cheap, but it looks and sounds fantastic. Unlike many other DAB radios, it offers stereo sound thanks to the two built-in speakers. If you don’t mind spending a bit more to get a really top-quality product, the Evoke D6 with Bluetooth is a good buy.A cheaper alternative is the Roberts Blutune100, which has a similar price tag to the Pure Evoke C-D6 and also has very similar features. The Blutune100 has an acoustically tuned wooden cabinet that helps give it an attractive retro design. The Pure Evoke C-D6 is one of the more expensive radios on the market at the moment, though it’s there are several more high-end models out there. We’d suggest upping your budget if that is the case, or if you don’t absolutely need a one-box solution, trump both with an all-in-one system such as Denon’s Award-winning D-M40DAB. This all-in-one system in the Evoke range combines digital radio and easy wireless Bluetooth connections with a CD player and FM connectivity.

Unlike on some other radios, the Evoke C-D6 changes DAB station almost instantaneously, so you don’t need to wait a few seconds for it to retune. You can enjoy your entire music collection with the Evoke C-D6 without having to worry about being restricted to just radio or just streaming. Additionally, the CD player that comes built-in with the CD-6 also includes extra features like shuffle and repeat. By the time we finished our Pure Evoke CD-6 review, it was clear to us that this radio is one that you can easily fall in love with. The system looks pleasant enough and offers plenty of functionality, similar to many other Pure products, like the Avalon or Siesta Rise. There’s a much bigger sense of scale than you get with one of its smaller siblings such as the Evoke D4. To go with the quantity of sound, there’s a decent level of quality too.

If being able to stream music from a Bluetooth-enabled device like a smartphone or laptop is important to you, the Evoke D4 with Bluetooth is a good option. Otherwise you should go for the regular Evoke D4, which costs less.If you just want a digital radio and aren’t interested in connecting it to the internet, an Evoke D2 or D4 is probably a better option. As with all Pure Evoke radios, you can except great sound quality. Despite a relatively compact design, you’ll get a room-filling stereo that’s ideal for drenching your home in sound. As part of the Evoke all-in-one music system collection, you can expect an easy-to-use interface with the CD-6, including intuitive and simple controls. The Evoke C-D6 is also impressive when it comes to sound quality. This radio has a different shape to the D2; you could say it is landscape rather than portrait shaped. Like the Evoke D2, it comes in either a walnut or oak veneer casing, which helps give it a balanced and natural sound. Features

Detail levels are fine for the money and the general balance isn’t bass or treble heavy. Push the Pure hard and its balanced approach stops everything from descending into a crashy, brash affair. Its main flaw is the CD player, which can be temperamental and slow to read CDs. However, the Evoke C-D6 performs very well on the whole. Similar radios Another thing we enjoyed about the Pure Evoke C-D6 is the fact that it’s future-proof. We’re not just talking about being able to access Bluetooth streaming here, either. Some of these radios cost more than the regular Evoke D4 with Bluetooth radio, but they are a good option if matching the radio to your decor is important to you. Changing digital stations: You can change the radio’s digital stations using the remote or the front panel controls. For the remote, press the 🢨 or 🢩 button to browse through a list of the available stations and then press “Select” to choose a station. If you want to use the front panel control knob, turn the select dial right or left to scan through a list of the available stations. Push the button to change a station.

Cons

If being able to listen to thousands of radio stations via the internet sounds exciting, the Evoke F3 could be a good buy. It’s a very modern and reliable radio with lots of smart features, and can connect with your phone, laptop and other devices. One particularly impressive feature of the Pure Evoke is how much power it manages to fit into such a small space. You should be able to easily fit this device into any room of your home. This particular radio system comes with an attractive real-wood casing, which is common throughout the Evoke portfolio.
