About this deal

Repeatedly, our research at Climate Outreach has pointed to the importance of authenticity in campaign messaging: although climate change really does pose catastrophic risks, screaming about climate catastrophe is not necessarily a good strategy if the people on the receiving end don’t see the same risks. Although in many ways undeserved, there are also lots of negative stereotypes around ‘typical’ climate activists, and the ‘doom and gloom’ that characterised many early climate campaigns.

A Ladybird Book: Climate Change" includes an Afterword in which The Prince Charles, the former Prince of Wales sets out a personal message to readers. (The Afterword was written last year, when His Majesty The King was still The Prince of Wales.) Learn about one of the most important issues facing our world today in this clear, simple and enlightening introduction. The book could easily have fallen foul of the often poisonous political wrangling over climate policies in royalist media such as the Daily Mail or Express, if the tone was not carefully chosen. A recent Ladybird book on climate change achieved something few books on climate change do: it got read (or at least bought) by large numbers of people.

Retailers:

This book, published today, is one of the ‘Expert’ series and the three authors can rightly be classed as such (but even if they weren’t, this book has been peer-reviewed by an impressive panel of scientists). It is a clear, unstuffy treatment of a very important subject.

I recently interviewed Greenland residents, for whom adapting to climate changes is part of everyday life. We don’t really consider ourselves to be living climate-changed lives in Britain, but my childhood 30 years ago was enlivened by two winter blizzards that each shut down my village for a week. That snowmaggedon was great for community spirit. Earth's climate has changed a number of times in the past due to natural changes in the Earth's environment. But the change in climate occurring at the present time is not natural. It is a result of the actions of people and it is happening at a very fast rate. This is not about passing the problem to them, but helping to ensure they are armed with the facts and thus in a stronger position to urge that changes are made to protect their future," Juniper said. Ever since I was a young teenager I have been deeply worried about the way we have shaped our world.’‘I am pleased to see that children across the world […] are now raising the alarm and calling for big changes to happen," wrote the former Prince of Wales. "Their efforts have emphasised the importance of caring about what life will be like in the future – there is a lesson in this for us all."When the team were thinking about new titles and what topics children might be interested in, climate change and the importance of protecting our world was something we really wanted to explore," Walden said. Man mag es nicht glauben, aber viele wissen wirklich nicht, wie der funktioniert und die glauben auch, dass die Ozonschicht und das Ozonloch was damit zu tun haben. Auch das hätte man abgrenzen sollen. Die Einheit parts per million was?! wird auch nicht erklärt. Wenn das für Laien sein soll... meine SuS wüssten jetzt nicht, was sie mit dieser Einheit anfangen sollen. I feel a strong sense of responsibility as a climate scientist to communicate widely the findings of my research. A Ladybird Book: Climate Change is an in-house project adapted from the Ladybird Expert title, published in 2017. The new title is illustrated by Aleesha Nandhra and has been updated with new climate data, an additional spread on the youth climate change movement and a new afterword, written last year, by the former Prince of Wales.

Book review – Climate Change by HRH The Prince of Wales Book review – Climate Change by HRH The Prince of Wales

This latest title in the heritage non-fiction series for Ladybird and has been newly illustrated by up-and-coming talent Aleesha Nandhra. Children are our future, and this book is about their future. As a scientist who has studied the climate from pole-to-pole, and as a parent with two young daughters, I believe there is no more important issue to inform and educate young people about." This is a Ladybird book – it’s not overloaded with words. If you have a long commute into work you could polish it off on one day with no problem at all. It’s a slim volume, nicely illustrated and written with admirable clarity. I wonder, would Prince Charles be able to put his name to such a book at some future time when he might be our king? Or would the subject be regarded as too political? This was a very worthwhile project and the first author’s celebrity status will get the messages to a wider audience than would otherwise be the case. The Ladybird Expert Book on Climate Change will be available from 26 January 2017, alongside volumes about quantum mechanics and evolution.
