Coding doesn’t need to be taught online. It can be taught through screen-free means that can prove to be just as fun! As you know, kids learn the best through movement and play. That’s why we’ve put together a list of interactive, simple coding games for kids that teach core programming skills through play.

Teaching kids to code in 2023 is so important and is now part of the school curriculum. If you are looking for coding for homeschoolers Osmo is fantastic for this for younger students. Some examples of daily routines include getting ready for school, or building a bedtime routine.• Cooking & Coding – A Delicious Way to Learn In this game, you could be the programmer giving your kids (a.k.a the “robots”) various if-then statements. Some examples of if-then statements (also called as a conditional statement in programming) include: “If I raise my hand, you raise your hand”. This is an easy statement, but if you want to make it more challenging, you could say something like “If I clap my hands, you touch your nose!” Although it confuses your child, it introduces them to key programming concepts through movement and play!• Code Design – Make Your Own Secret Code As Awbie collects berries, finds his pets, and earns plants for his garden, kids will find that the levels increase in difficulty. Awbie will be asked to jump over water, skip over lily-pads, and go up or down steps.One of the things my son loved is that the coding pieces are separate from the online game, like a game piece. You take each of the pieces and build your code on a flat surface in front of your device. In his words,”It’s fun and it’s cool how it has an interactive thing. You can move the coding pieces and it affects the screen.” Osmo’s Coding Awbie is another app+kit that uses the basic functions of coding to teach kids as young as 4 or 5 how to code. There are so many proven benefits of coding, and I feel like these benefits apply to any child.

It is aimed at children aged between 5 and 12 years old, and can only be played on an Ipad or iPhone.Before you begin playing this game, make sure to explain to your child about the basic steps for cooking the dish, along with the ingredients required to make it. We recently had the opportunity to start using an Osmo for school, and I wanted to share some of our experience with you to help you decide if it would be a good fit for your home or classroom. What We Love About It: We called in the experts (aka our panel of kid reviewers and their parents) to test this year’s hottest toys. Their favorites earned the Mashable Choice Toys badge of honor. Another update: As of 2023, there are newer versions of the drawing apps that are phenomenal! My daughter got one (the Disney Princess Super Studio) for her birthday this year, and it was so cool to watch her not only learn to draw, but to watch her creations come to life. Seeing how Osmo has continued to advance their tech and apps, I’d happily try more of their drawing add-ons at this point. What I Recommend in 2023: This was a super fun game that all three of my boys loved. It involved not just learning adding in different ways, but also planning ahead to create combos. It’s another game that progresses well with levels.

Update: Osmo now has a dedicated reading adventure game! We haven’t bought this one yet, so I can’t speak to the quality, but it’s on one of my kids’ Christmas lists. I’ll give this an update when I have a verdict. Access to the other apps that don’t require extra pieces – like the Drawing app and the Newton app.

Update: Woohoo, Osmo now makes an ipad case that works with their setup! Just make sure you buy the right size. The drawing app was okay (one of my boys enjoyed playing it once). But I didn’t love that it just involved staring at the screen, and didn’t involve a ton of creativity.
