About this deal

I don’t often come across a book in which I find so many of the characters empathetic. At the same time, the situations rang true to life and I could imagine my sisters, or my daughters reacting similarly. Had I known that this book wouldn't be just about Mothers and Daughters I probably would've been able to enjoy it a bit more.

Mothers and Daughters: The perfect Mother’s Day gift and new Mothers and Daughters: The perfect Mother’s Day gift and new

The protagonist has lost her mother to suicide and is engulfed in grief. At the heart of the story is her female friend, another motherless daughter (although for a different reason). Of course there are men in the mix – but the fundamental issue that drives the story is this: what does it mean to be a mother? And how does one survive without one? Naomi was suddenly widowed a couple of years ago, but has remained in Tilsham by the sea, rebuilding her life and generally feeling content

No More Perfect Moms: Learn to Love Your Real Life by Jill Savage

Ruth and Naomi - I'd not thought about the fact that Ruth didn't just take Naomi as her mother, but took on Naomi's God, to be her own. So beautiful! I loved this!! One of those stories when you're sad to leave the characters as you immediately feel at ease with them and want to carry on watching over them as they come to terms with the loss in their lives, but begin to move on. A touching and honest portrayal of a mother and her two daughters dealing with that thing called life.

As she and her best friend study for the Baccalaureate exams that will determine their futures, Margot is seduced by a journalist and her husband into sharing the secrets of her family life. When the story goes public, a string of events that no one could have expected unfolds. And it becomes essential to understand exactly what family, parenthood, loyalty and devotion really mean. Have faith” is a phrase we hear all the time. But what does it actually look like to live it out? In The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak, Shannon Bream examines the lives of biblical women to see how God’s plans can turn our worlds upside down. She tells the story of Jochebed, a mother who took enormous risks to protect her son, Moses, from Pharaoh. Could Jochebed have imagined that God’s actual design for her son involved flight into exile and danger? And yet this was all part of the master plan to deliver Israel from slavery. Another biblical mother, Rebekah, made terrible choices in an attempt to ensure her son’s place in history. And a daughter, Michal, struggled to keep her faithless father, Saul, from sin, while battling pride in herself. There are also sinister doings at the medical lab where Paul works. And the vexing problem of why our heroine is named after the economist who coined the phrase “conspicuous consumption.” It all goes reasonably haywire, but as an exploration of the weight of the past on our hopes for the future, it’s provocative and sobering. We promise that you’ll never see squirrels in quite the same way again. You don’t have to be a mother or a daughter to know that mother-daughter relationships are complicated. No two dynamics are the same, and even in the presence of big love, myriad complex emotions often accompany this unique and important bond. Whether our mothers are our best friends, worst enemies or anything in between, one thing is for sure: a daughter’s relationship to her mother will shape her in ways both obvious and less apparent. Here are ten great reads on mother-daughter relationships in all of their beautiful, complicated, multi-layered glory. Fight Night is set in Toronto, where a preternaturally wise and precocious 9-year old girl, Swiv, is parenting her pregnant mother and her loveably outgoing and outspoken grandmother. The novel is written in the form of an extended letter to Swiv’s father, who has gone missing with no word of goodbye. The three women, and “Gord,” the unborn child, are left to fend for themselves. Which they do with wit, anger, good humor and plain old stubbornness. Her eldest daughter, Martha, is sensible and determined – just like her father was – and very much in control of where her life is going. If she could just get pregnant with her husband, life would be perfect. When Elise Schiller's daughter died of a heroin overdose in 2014, her life was permanently altered. Elise began questioning the American substance-abuse treatment system after her daughter died at a treatment facility in Colorado. Her daughter had been unsuccessful in more than five programs, making it clear that there was a larger problem at hand. True to its title, Even If Your Heart Would Listen portrays the story of a mother whose devotion to her daughter is unshakeable no matter what occurs. Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple Elizabeth and Mary - Bream explained their relationship in a way that I had not gone deep enough to understand, before. Something about the way Mrs. Bream gets into the heads of these people of the Bible and then further dives into why they made the decisions they did has really touched me and there were plenty of 'aha' moments for me.While attempting to be the best mother she can be, Ashley Keller isn't doing so well. She thinks she'll finally be the mother she's always wanted to be after signing up for the Motherhood Better boot camp. Author of The Honest Toddler takes a look at the demands that society places on mothers and gives the idea of being a great mother doesn't require you to be perfect. The Daughter by Lucy Dawson The iconic novel Belovedfollows Sethe, a slave who kills her young daughter rather than have her face a life in slavery. Years later, when Sethe is free, a mysterious woman comes to live with her and her community is convinced she’s the ghost of the murdered child. I did not the stories of Michal, Saul's daughter. How she was used as a token, to be torn between kings-her father, and her husband.
