People who enjoy 240Hz gaming can now finally move past the lowly 1080p resolution and revel in crystal-clear details, provided they have the proper PC rig to sustain it. The response time speed is top-notch as well; you won’t encounter any prominent ghosting or trailing behind fast-moving objects.
Remember how I mentioned the curved version of this monitor had superior gaming features? Even with that, both have a similar response time. But, while this one can achieve 1ms GTG, the HP x27c can reach 1ms with MPRT. Unlike some of its competitors, it also includes a regular RGB subpixel layout, so text clarity is crystal clear. Compared to other monitors all using their highest refresh rate and optimized overdrive settings, the HP X27q performs quite well. The monitor is able to deliver a similar experience to products like the Dell S2721DGF, which we've recommended as a budget 1440p monitor in the past. There are four response time overdrive modes: Normal, Fast, Faster, Fastest. We recommend using either ‘Fast’ or ‘Faster,’ as ‘Fastest’ introduces a lot of pixel overshoot. Apart from that, the IPS screen shines with its vibrant colors (after calibration), so if you want to get the most of this model, I recommend you calibrate it.The HP X27 high peak brightness also aids the IPS in maintaining accurate colors. However, the higher this ratio is set, the more you’ll notice IPS shining, especially in a dark room, so keep that in mind. As a result, this monitor won’t appeal that much to those who want the gaming features to be resembled in the monitor’s design, with a lot of eye-catchy details, since this one leans towards a more down-to-earth style.
In terms of picture quality, there's not much wide gamut support, factory calibration is average, and the contrast ratio is poor. But other areas are perfectly usable, it gets nice and bright, viewing angles are excellent, it's a flat panel, no dark level performance issues and it works perfectly fine for SDR content. At a fixed 120Hz, the X27q is passable, delivering similar response times to other monitors, but with a higher level of overshoot. The panel isn't quite as good as others at the top of this chart, but good enough that it's still usable at this refresh rate. To top it off, this display wouldn’t be complete without a solid tearing-reduction function, which the AMD FreeSync Premium provided. The premium version of FreeSync has a wider operating range, which means you’ll get even better results with tear-free visuals and better smoothness.Note that depending on how close you are watching the screen, this may be easier or more difficult to see. If you use your monitor at a high distance, the low PPI is less likely to bother you than if you use it up close. Of course, if you only use one of those displays, the difference during use will be minimal, but if you compare both, the motion blur of the HP x27c during the use of MPRT will be much more visible.
As soon as you move and look at the screen from the sides or from below/above, the picture quality degrades. This isn’t a problem if you’re sitting directly in front of the screen, but it’s something you should have in mind. While the image quality is a bit better as opposed to the previous-generation TN models, the 160°/170° viewing angles are still a bit of a problem. One thing is certain: if you have expectations based on typical displays in this category and price point, the HP X27 will undoubtedly exceed them in terms of overall quality.
However, don’t expect the IPS or VA levels of color and contrast quality due to the monitor’s specified wide color gamut, HDR support, and local dimming features. In general, this display does not have a traditional gaming appearance. The HP X32 surprised us with its gaming features, but casual look. And this one will most likely cause the same.
HP doesn't include an sRGB mode with this display, and there are only a few other color controls, so overall the only major adjustment you can make is to the white balance. This can improve grayscale performance, but we end up shy of accurate results. They managed to adopt one of the highest brightness ratios for this monitor while keeping the pricing relatively stable, resulting in an improved price-performance ratio. With 400 nits, you’ll be able to get an edge during games by seeing your opponent easier in a dark place. This stand allows you to tilt, swivel and adjust the height to what makes it more comfortable for your use. Also, if you wish to mount the monitor on the wall, you won’t be having good use for those adjustments, and this monitor has you covered with its VESA support, which allows you to do so without any further hassles.
HP X27 FHD Gaming Monitor
The HP Omen X 27 was the first 1440p 240Hz model available. When it was released, there were no IPS and VA alternatives. Nowadays, you can find an IPS or VA model with just as good performance and better image quality for the same price, thus making the Omen X 27 obsolete. Results may vary based on quality of the original picture/photo/video and difference between the previous monitor settings compared to the HP Enhance + mode. Fortunately, this monitor has the same above-average quality materials as its 32-inch counterpart. Those do convey a high level of durability, which is noteworthy given the monitor’s low price point. They also opted to utilize an ergonomic stand for this model, as if quality materials weren’t enough for such a “budget” screen.
