About this deal

So whether you’re hammering off the front, smashing an Ironman course, or laying down maximum wattage in the dash to the finish line, the Giro Vanquish shapes the wind to work for you. Mastering the art of airflow, Giro presents their teardrop designed Vanquish MIPS Helmet. Proving to be the pinnacle of road cycling helmet technology, this concisely designed helmet has gone through months of rigorous testing and development to hone in on a design that effectively shapes and manipulates airflow. Superior in aerodynamics, ventilation and comfort, this helmet is set to break records. the dash to the finish line, the Vanquish Mips® shapes the wind to work for you. Features Hardshell With In-Mold hardbody™ Lower Wrap Giro has combined its own Roc Loc Air fit system with MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) for added comfort and safety. The inclusion of MIPS and those two EPS foam liners would suggest a weighty number, but the Eclipse Spherical comes in at 277g on our scales for a medium.

Let Giro shape the wind for you, whether you’re going for your base mileage or leading the front in an Ironman course, thanks to the Vanquish MIPS Aero Helmet. The MIPS system consists of a low-friction layer between the EPS lining and the padding with an elastic fixation. This allows the helmet to move slightly (slide or rotate) during a crash. It will move around your head to absorb the lateral and rotational forces that could occur. This in contrast to a helmet without MIPS, which only absorbs the impact through compression of the EPS lining. Air allows cool airflow to pass directly over your head, further enhancing the performance of vents and internal The peak of the helmet is far enough from the top of the glasses to prevent obstruction while the two ventilation holes double up as excellent ports to house the arms of your glasses. Now onto those aero claims. The Vanquish MIPS, with the shield visor in place, scored very highly in our own independent wind-tunnel testing in 2019, consistently up there with the Specialized Evade 2 across a range of yaw angles and speeds. Designed to manipulate airflow, a weight-saving in-mould process enabled Giro to optimise their design to be exceptionally aerodynamic and breathable. Strong, impact damping and light, the protective EPS foam liner is bonded to a four-piece polycarbonate shell that has been shaped and optimised with TransformAir technology and ten wind tunnel vents. Improving riding efficiency and shaving seconds off your personal bests, the TransformAir 'cliff' effectively manipulates airflow to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics.

The two-piece shell combines a tough outer hard shell with a polycarbonate lower shell permanently fused to the liner Giro says its new Vanquish MIPS is the most aerodynamically efficient road helmet the company has produced to date – and nearly the best ventilated, too. Additionally, Giro builds each Vanquish MIPS helmet with a dual-layer EPS foam liner, with a softer-density foam next to the head and a harder, more durable foam further out near the four-piece polycarbonate shell. According to Giro, this double-layer design is better at absorbing impact energy from a wider range of crash severities than any single-density design. Besides being comfortable, the X-static pads have anti-microbial properties to keep your helmet fresh for a long time. The pads are machine washable. Delivery includes True to claims, ventilation performance seemed better with the shield in place than stowed, too (perhaps due to the fact that doing so partially obscures the forward-facing vents).

standards. The goal of Giro's Integrated Mips®-equipped helmets is to reduce rotational forces while enhancing fit At slower speeds, as you would expect, it is less effective. There is simply less air passing through to keep you cool and so causing the temperature within the helmet to rise. However, it’s worth noting that the shield was also the source of two frustrations, as well. First, getting the shield into the up position sometimes requires a bit of finesse to get just right. The magnets, while stronger, are hidden inside the helmet, so you cannot as easily get it placed (especially while riding). Second, and really more serious, the lens has “Vivid Optics by Zeiss” printed on the bottom left. This was a pretty annoying distraction that constantly entered our field of vision. And while it would not prevent us from buying or recommending the Vanquish, we feel like it was significant enough to warn anyone considering purchasing the Vanquish. (Note to Giro: make a version of the shield with the lettering removed and you really will have us sold!)
