About this deal

Here I used the X-T5’s bird recognition AF, and shot in 24MP crop mode. Fujifilm X-T5, XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR at 110mm, 1/1250sec at f/5, ISO 1000

Another difference between the X-T5 and the older X-T4 it replaces appears to be that the former is a more efficient camera, as the battery life between the two models is different. While the older X-T4 could offer 600 shots on a single charge, the X-T5 increases this to 740, bagging the user an extra 140 shots before they have to recharge and when that time comes, you can charge the X-T5 on the go using a powerbank.

Intro

Switching to the electronic shutter allows you to shoot at up to 20fps, but with a 1.29x crop, resulting in smaller images. Once again I confirmed the actual speed in my own tests, managing to capture 603 JPEGs across 30 seconds or 22 uncompressed RAW files in 1.1 seconds. In both cases, the buffer took around ten seconds to fully write onto SD memory.

While classically inspired, Fujifilm’s XT series arguably has more in common with other modern mirrorless bodies. The viewfinder and flipping LCD screen, not to mention the menu navigation buttons, are all similar to the likes of Sony, Nikon, and Canon. But, the Fujifilm XT5 sits halfway between the modern and the classic with the labeled top dials for shutter speed and ISO, not to mention the silver color option. I switched from a DSLR to the XT4 more than a year ago. While initially hesitant about the transition, I now can’t imagine a life without those top dials and an aperture ring around a metal lens. The new X-T5 is virtually identical to its predecessor, retaining all of the traditional dials and controls that Fuji users have come to know and love, including the classic Fujifilm ISO, Shutter Speed and Exposure Compensation dials on top of the camera. The body features two SD Card slots which take the UHSII cards, the same as the XT4. Interestingly there is also a “No memory card warning“ in the camera – a new, but welcome, feature I’ve not seen before. The camera also features a 3D level rather than the simple horizontal level. Although video is not the priority for this camera you can now record 10-bit 4:2:2 video at 6.2K/30P. The XT5 is a wonderful camera, clearly differentiated from the XH2 range and targeted primarily at still photographers. It will definitely appeal to landscape and travel photographers who require superior image quality and portability. The new X-T5 has exactly the same hybrid autofocus system with phase detection and and contrast detections points as the more expensive X-H2. It can shoot at 20fps when using the electronic shutter without any crop, or 30fps with a 1.25x crop applied. If you want to break a chimping habit or pretend you are working with a film camera, both the X Pro 3 and XT4 can hide the LCD screen. But both cameras go about it in entirely different ways.
