About this deal

Suitable for most fabrics. Stops fabric edges fraying. Can be used on hems and seams for re-enforcement. There are plenty of times you can use a sewn fabric finish. Most common uses are on clothing as the friction of movement often makes fabrics unravel and fray.

The problem comes in when this product does dry. While it is supposed to dry clear, even its maker, Dritz, has said that result is only for most fabrics. You should not assume that the fabric material you are working with falls into that ‘most’ category. Place the felt square onto the shank of the Craft eye, before adding the washer and pushing it down EVENLY, until it ‘clips’ into place. If you are fraying denim edges and want them to stop at a certain point, a zig-zag stitch around the leg a few inches from the raw edge will stop it from fraying all the way up your leg. That way, you can control the amount of fraying. 6. Blanket Stitch (Handstitch) As long as you keep the cap on tight and store it with the cap end up, you should not have any problem if you wait more than a year to use it again. Another user has kept their bottle for several years and reported no problems with the contents. It can often look bulky, a little messy or untidy especially for clothing. You can work on using a hidden seam or french seam if you would prefer to use a sewn finish over a non sewn finish. What Is A No Sew Fabric Finish?

Clear nail polish is one of the better choices as well. Most women have it in their bedrooms or make-up kits so it is free to use until you run out and it is always handy to find. Look what happens to the GREEN Craft eye when you stuff the toy – it pops ‘out’ of the fabric and looks awful! I took these photos to put together a photo tutorial about inserting Craft eyes, and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that was almost a year ago!!! I thought I’d better put this up before it’s a whole year gone by!!! Pre-cut ¼ inch (6mm) narrow strips to add to the raw edges of the seam before sewing. This will stop the fabric from fraying. If you still wish to use a French seam, trim off the fusible facing before you turn the fabric and sew the second step. You can also place hemming tape inside a folded edge and then press it with an iron according to the instructions. 4. Pinking Shears

Prym Fray Check | Sew Essential

Using iron-on fusible interfacing or iron-on hem tape on the edges works very well to stop fraying. I wasn’t happy with the way the eyes looked ‘loose’ and jiggled around a bit when I used thinner fabrics like quilting cottons, so now I do things a bit differently for thin fabrics. The liquid adhesive or Modge Podge stops those threads from unraveling. Some brands have a squeeze nozzle, and others a spray nozzle. The squeeze nozzle is better for more precise applications.

More Sewing Techniques

Other options you will have will be fusible interfacing, pinking shears, and regular stitches. For materials like ribbons which can be made out of nylon fibers, a lighter will work just as well. The flame will melt the fibers together and create a lasting hold. Some Final Words One alternative you can try is Elmer’s or other regular glue that has been watered down enough to hold the fabric without making it too stiff. Regular scotch tape is another product you have around the house and it will be a temporary fix at best. In bulkier fabrics, fabric sealants can come to the rescue, or even fabric glue or Mod Podge painted on the edge of the cut fabric. Always do a test first for the types of fabrics this method is suitable for.

Fray Check Alternative: What Can I Use Instead of Fray Check?

Well, I hope these pics have helped you see (couldn’t help myself!!!) how to make your toy’s EYES look absolutely stunning!!! : ) Please don’t forget – If you have any tips for using Craft eyes… please share the love!!! There has been no real instruction that we have found for either product concerning the water temperature your clothing should be washed in once the adhesive has dried. So you may have to play this by ear. This version of the many anti fraying liquids available today is made by June Tailor. It comes in different sizes and the large size measures about 1 1/2 fl. oz. The purpose of this product is to help sewers keep their fabrics from fraying without having to stop what they are doing to sew extra stitches. We have not come across any recipes that provide any ingredients to make this product at home. Most options are as we have already described, use factory-made household items. Starch or spray starch will work as well.Fraying is what happens to a fabric edge, it is the weave of the fabric slowly unravelling. The very edges of the fabric are come apart from the main body and are coming away. This will eventually work its way to a seam or shrink the fabric item itself. Yes, this adhesive can be washed although one should be wary of using warm or hot water. If you are only using the material to hold the fabric seams in place until you sew them up, then hot water will wash out the liquid.
